Nothing says “me time” like an hour browsing your favorite porn site. Unless you’re using a virtual private network (VPN), though, it isn’t actually “me time” – instead, it’s “me, my ISP, and the government” time, and anyone in the vicinity with decent hacking skills is free to join in.

Some jurisdictions are less forgiving. Depending on your location, the authorities may have filtered any and all websites deemed to be pornographic, and if you somehow manage to access them, that “me time” can quickly become “jail time.”

Neither of these situations is ideal. That’s why it’s essential to equip yourself with a VPN while browsing adult websites because anyone who manages to get hold of your viewing history can make your life a living hell with the information. To help, we’ve compiled a list of the best VPN for porn to ensure your “me time” remains totally private in 2019.

Legal status of online porn

Viewing online pornography is illegal in the following territories: Algeria; Bahrain; Bangladesh; Belarus; Botswana; Bulgaria; Cuba; Egypt; Ethiopia; Ghana; Guyana; Iceland; Indonesia; Iran; Iraq; Kenya; Kuwait; Lithuania; Morocco; Myanmar; Nepal; North Korea; Pakistan; Papua New Guinea; the Philippines; Saudi Arabia; Sri Lanka; Sudan; Syria; Tanzania; Thailand; Trinidad & Tobago; Tunisia; Turkmenistan; the UAE; Uganda; Ukraine; and Zambia.

Furthermore, while pornography is legal in China, Venezuela, Turkey, Nigeria, and South Africa, the majority of porn sites are blocked in these countries.

Users in these countries, as well as users traveling there, should definitely invest in a VPN if their wish is to watch porn. A VPN allows you to connect to a server somewhere else in the world, which not only allows you to bypass geo-restrictions but also disguises your real location and IP address.

With the right encryption, you can browse as much pornography as you wish without your viewing history being traced back to you. (However, it is worth noting that we do not, under any circumstance, condone the breaking of any laws.)

What should you look for in a porn VPN?

Any good VPN offers a range of features that are designed to enhance user experience. Of course, not every potential VPN customer will see all of these features as relevant to their needs. When considering a VPN for porn, though, there are certain features that absolutely need to be met.

The ideal VPN should combine, at the very least, a strong balance of privacy and security capabilities; it should disguise your online identity and make sure no prying eyes can crack the code. Your VPN of choice should have a strict no-logs policy, a protocol such as OpenVPN or SSTP, and an encryption cipher such as AES-256-GCM or -CBC.

As well as this, you should ideally look for a VPN with plentiful servers and strong connection speeds. After all, whether it’s standard- or high-definition video you’re after, you’re going to need a VPN that can offer streaming without interruptions or buffering pauses.

1. ExpressVPN

  • Location: British Virgin Islands
  • Pricing: starts at $8.32/month
  • Servers: 2,000+ in 94 countries

One of the most respected and most popular services on the market, ExpressVPN is a fantastic all-rounder that provides boundless options for your online security.

The developers behind ExpressVPN understand that some users don’t necessarily need their entire system protecting – sometimes, the slight lag in download speeds isn’t worth it. For this reason, ExpressVPN comes with a variety of features such as split-tunneling, which allows you to toggle which of your data channels are protected, thereby taking the strain off your overall CPU.

Then there are the browser extensions it offers, which allows you to use the VPN just for your browser traffic, which makes for a more user-friendly experience overall as it also is easy to toggle as and when you need it. ExpressVPN offers more browser extensions than its competitors, covering Google Chrome, Firefox, and Safari, which makes the service accessible to countless users the world over.

2. VyprVPN

  • Location: Switzerland
  • Pricing: starts at $5.00/month
  • Servers: 700+ in 70 countries

As with Express, VyprVPN offers split-tunneling as a built-in feature. As well as running a private DNS network and using AES-256-CBC encryption, VyprVPN also supports a modified version of the OpenVPN protocol, Chameleon.

Chameleon is developed by Golden Frog, the company behind VyprVPN, and it overcomes the minor issues associated with OpenVPN: namely, the inability to breach the Great Firewall of China. For this reason, VyprVPN will also bypass the porn filter that the Chinese authorities have levied on their servers.

And because VyprVPN is registered in Switzerland and maintains a no-logs policy, there’s no need to worry about anyone finding out!

3. NordVPN

  • Location: Panama
  • Pricing: starts at $3.49/month
  • Servers: 5,100+ in 62 countries

While NordVPN doesn’t support split-tunneling, it does provide the option to install the VPN client on your browser. This more or less allows you to do the same thing, and if anything, it’s easier to configure than by using the standard VPN client.

As well as this, NordVPN is a hyper-secure app with AES-256-bit encryption and registry in Panama, which is one of the least invasive countries, data-wise. With well over five thousand servers, furthermore, NordVPN will provide you with some of the fastest loading speeds, allowing for HD streaming quality with (usually) no interruptions.

4. Surfshark VPN

  • Location: British Virgin Islands
  • Pricing: starts at $1.99/month
  • Servers: 500+ in 50 countries

Surfshark VPN is a ridiculously inexpensive VPN, and shockingly, it does scrimp on quality to provide these lower prices. With only five hundred servers in just fifty countries, it may seem impossible for Surfshark to match up with the speeds of NordVPN and ExpressVPN.

However, as with VyprVPN, Surfshark uses AES-256-CBC encryption, which is a lot faster than the GCM model. Through this, it more than makes up for its relatively lightweight server fleet.

Being registered in the British Virgin Islands means that Surfshark is not obligated to comply with any data requests. Even if it chose to, it’d have nothing to hand over to any authorities since it never keeps any of your logs. While Surfshark might not yet be a household name, it’s still a great porn VPN to bear in mind if the other options don’t tickle your fantasy.

5. Astrill VPN

  • Location: Seychelles
  • Pricing: starts at $8.33/month
  • Servers: 321 in 65 countries

Last but not least, we have Astrill VPN VPN, which is one of our favorites. Registered in Seychelles and packing AES-256-bit encryption alongside support for the OpenVPN, StealthVPN, and SSTP protocols, Astrill offers as much security as money can buy you, making it one of the best VPN for porn all around.

However, there are some reasons as to why Astrill has landed so low on our list. For one thing, it’s more expensive than all our other options; for another, it seems to lack browser extensions, which as we’ve already said streamlines the porn VPN experience. While it may not be perfect, then, it’s still worth giving Astrill a go if the others aren’t doing the job.
