Thailand is a country where online activity is carefully monitored. A lot of international websites have been blocked or temporarily restricted in recent years, including dailymail.co.uk and Wikileaks.
Thailand has a lot of governmental surveillance, which is highly inconvenient. While most Internet users hate censorship, a good VPN service lets you access blocked content, keep your online activity private and secure, and help you to avoid inadvertent legal trouble.
A VPN service reroutes your online traffic through a remote server, and in the process conceals your IP address. This allows you to make yourself virtually anonymous. The purpose of this article is to highlight and compare some of the best VPNs for Thailand. We focus in on important qualities including:
- Privacy and security
- Combination of price and features
- Location (Is it outside the 5/9/14 Eyes?)
Privacy and security are the most important. When considering price, you want to think about what features you need. You want to get all the features you need, but you don’t want to pay extra for features you don’t need. Location matters because some countries perform more surveillance than others.
Here is our best VPN for Thailand list.
The best VPNs for Thailand
- Location: Panama
- Pricing: starts at $2.99/month
- Features: Double VPN, a kill switch, DNS leak protection, onion over VPN, a strict-no logging policy, top-of-the-line encryption
NordVPN is one of the most reputable VPNs on the market and one of the best VPNs for Thailand. It has some of the best privacy and security protocols and Panama is a great location because it is outside the jurisdiction of the 14-Eyes.
NordVPN is also relatively fast. They have 5,252 servers throughout the world. Many of them are in the US and in Europe. NordVPN also offers excellent customer service and easy-to-use apps. Our favorite part about NordVPN is that we were able to reliably access all of the streaming content we want, including geo-blocked Netflix content.
The biggest drawback is the price tag, but the reliability and sheer amount of bells and whistles make NordVPN hard to overlook. NordVPN is perhaps the best VPN for Thailand.

- Location: British Virgin Islands
- Price: starts at $8.32/month
- Features: split tunneling, a kill switch, 148-VPN locations, a no-logging policy
ExpressVPN is another one of the best VPNs for Thailand. What we like about ExpressVPN is that it is easy to use but still highly secure. We also found that it worked very well for streaming geo-blocked content on services such as Netflix. While the price is on the expensive side, the performance was some of the best that we’ve seen.
ExpressVPN has locations in 94 different countries. We also found that ExpressVPN worked well for bypassing throttling. ExpressVPN is compatible with Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Linux, and more.
ExpressVPN also has a good location. The British Virgin Islands don’t have any data retention laws. Overall, we found ExpressVPN to be one of the best when it came to streaming and downloading torrents in Thailand because of the high speeds and ability to stay anonymous.

- Location: Switzerland
- Price: starts at $5.00/month
- Features: zero-knowledge DNS, no-logging policy, public WiFi protection, AES-256 encryption
VyprVPN was designed specifically to overcome VPN blocking. The premium version comes with a Chameleon mode that scrambles OpenVPN traffic to fool firewalls. Switzerland is a good location because they have strict privacy laws.
The service does log some data, but it does not log user activity. We found that in some cases we were able to access geo-blocked Netflix content but in others, we weren’t. It worked better for accessing US content than European content. We found that mobile apps were very usable.
Overall, we thought there were better options but you get a lot of good security and privacy features for a very reasonable price. If the price is a concern, Vypr is one of the best VPNs for Thailand.

- Location: Romania
- Price: starts at $4.13/month
- Features: public WiFi protection, a kill-switch, 256-bit encryption, a no-logging policy, instant VPN
What we like about CyberGhost is that it is simple to use for beginners. It’s also in Romania, which is outside of the 5/9/14 Eyes. CyberGhost’s network has 60 server locations. The product works with Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Linux, and routers.
We were able to bypass a lot of geo-blocked content with CyberGhost, which we appreciated. It also worked well for downloading torrents. CyberGhost supports up to 7 connections at once. This makes it a great choice for people who travel a lot. It doesn’t have all the features of ExpressVPN, such as split tunneling, but it does have a lot of the same features. Overall, it is a good budget option that still gives you security and privacy.

- Location: USA
- Price: starts at $6.49/month
- Features: a kill-switch, a no-logging policy, WiFi protection, 256-bit AES encryption, 24/7 customer support
The biggest downside of IPVanish is its location. The United States does not have the best privacy climate. There are a lot of benefits, however. We found that IPVanish was great for bypassing censorship. It also has decent speeds and is less expensive than other options.
There are 60 server locations. While we were able to access a lot of geo-blocked content, we had some trouble bypassing Netflix restrictions. IPVanish supports Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. While the privacy features are strong, the location makes it difficult to have total faith in them. For this reason, we’d consider going with NordVPN or ExpressVPN if privacy is a top concern.
But if privacy isn’t as important to you, IPVanish is a solid VPN that is reasonably priced. If you can overlook the location, IPVanish is one of the best VPNs for Thailand.

- Location: Sweden
- Price: starts at $3.82/month
- Features: a zero-logging policy, 256-bit encryption code, public WiFi protection, a kill switch, 6 simultaneous connections, fast-speeds
PrivateVPN is one of the fastest growing VPN providers right now, and for good reason. It is fairly inexpensive but still offers a great amount of privacy. Sweden has strict privacy laws, so you don’t have to worry about your privacy being violated.
We had no problem accessing censored content with PrivateVPN, and we found it also worked well for streaming restricted content on Netflix. The speeds weren’t the best but it wasn’t slow either.
With over 80 server locations, the networks are also versatile. Overall, we found PrivateVPN to be a good balance of value and privacy, making it one of the best VPNs for Thailand.

Private Internet Access
- Location: United States
- Price: starts at $2.91/month
- Features: 128-bit and 256-bit encryption, zero-logging policy, instant setup, public WiFi protection
As with IPVanish, the location is not the best. But despite the privacy issues, it still offers great security. 128-bit encryption comes as the default, but you can also choose 256-AES encryption. The default settings are faster, though. The lighter encryption makes it one of the faster VPNs around.
One downside is that while there are a ton of servers located in the US, there is less variety outside of the US. There are no servers in Thailand. However, if you are in Thailand and trying to access content limited to the United States, Private Internet Access will have you covered. The price is also a definite plus.

If you want a cheaper option, VyprVPN is likely the best VPN for Thailand. It’s relatively fast and has many of the necessary security features.
