If you’re looking for a home media center app for streaming to your TV, you can’t go wrong with Stremio. Similar to the more popular Kodi and Plex, Stremio allows you to browse, organize, and cast your favorite TV shows and movies with ease.

On top of that, Stremio has several advantages over other media centers. For one, it’s designed to be user-friendly and super simple for anyone to use – even beginners. It also runs add-ons from remote servers, meaning there’s no need to risk viruses by downloading code onto your computer or phone.

One reason Stremio is so popular is that it has a very wide range of these add-ons. Of course, since there are so many, it can hard to find the best ones to try. That’s why we’ve put together a handy list of our favorites. Read on to find out the top 13 Stremio add-ons for your device.

If you’re concerned about whether Stremio is legal or not, you’ll find this interesting. The use of the media player itself is 100% legal. However, the nature of media content you stream changes everything.

The risk of streaming or viewing copyright materials is still high with Stremio unless you use a VPN. We recommend using a VPN to access Stremio to ensure your identity and location are kept private and avoid getting into hot water with law enforcement or copyright trolls.

Why use a VPN with Stremio

If you’re streaming media content on Stremio, you may be viewing pirated material, especially if you’re using the unofficial Stremio add-ons. As a result, you’re at risk of getting in trouble with the authorities or even being prosecuted if you get caught using Stremio for this purpose. Thankfully, there is an easy way to avoid ever getting caught at all: using a VPN.

What does it do? A VPN:

  • Masks your real IP address (and location)
  • Encrypts your traffic

This makes it extremely difficult for anyone, including your ISP, to monitor your online activity. When using a VPN, you connect to the internet via a remote server. This reroutes all your traffic away from your usual local internet connection, effectively hiding all your activity (including your Stremio use) from your internet provider.

On top of that, since VPNs allow you to connect to networks all over the world, they can also bypass geo-blocking restrictions. For example, if one of your chosen Stremio add-ons needs to connect to a server that’s restricted to US residents, all you have to do is connect to a VPN server in the US.

Flawless privacy practices, advanced security features, and reliable geo-unblocking capabilities make NordVPN the undisputed industry leader. Whatever your needs, this VPN has you covered – all starting from just $3.30/month.
  • Excellent security
  • Great server list
  • Awesome for Netflix
  • Good for torrenting
  • Very easy to use
  • Affordable prices

The top 13 best Stremio add-ons in 2023

1. Netflix

Netflix is an official Stremio add-on and allows you to stream your favorite movies and shows directly from the platform. However, Netflix isn’t free, so you’ll need to login using your existing subscription account or sign up for a new plan. Since this is an official Stremio addon, you can expect it to be stable and free of any rogue or bogus code.

2. Twitch

Another option for non-copyrighted content on Stremio (and one that’s often overlooked) is Twitch. If you’re into video gaming, you probably already know that Twitch is the biggest platform for streaming Let’s Plays and other video game related live content. However, even if gaming isn’t your thing, Twitch is also filled with streamers who broadcast themselves drawing, cooking, and even just talking.

Again, by installing the Twitch add-on for Stremio, you get an easier way to browse and stream your favorite live streams without having to switch apps or worry about how to cast to your TV.

3. Youtube

This official YouTube add-on is feature-packed and allows you to enjoy content from your favorite channels on the platform without any interference from ads. You also get instantly notified when these channels upload new content.

4. PirateBay

PirateBay is a third-party Stremio addon that gives you access to content from the torrent site. This Stremio addon essentially helps you fetch TV shows or movies from The Pirate Bay, which is the biggest torrent archive worldwide.

It’s recommended to use a VPN for accessing the PirateBay addon. This way you can avoid getting caught up in the legal battles associated with torrent copyrighted content.

The RARBG Stremio addon offers access to free movies and TV shows directly from the RARBG torrents website. This is an unofficial addon and although it provides free and useful content, a lot of it is pirated and could get you into legal trouble unless you’re protecting yourself with a VPN.

6. PopcornTime

Popcorn Time is filled with a huge selection of films and TV shows. With such a vast library spanning multiple eras of entertainment, it’s likely that you’ll find whatever you want to watch on Popcorn Time. The majority of Popcorn Time’s content is available to stream in HD, and the add-on has a simple interface that’s easy to use and similar to Netflix in design.

Best of all, Popcorn Time is completely free! Just remember to have your VPN connected when you use it to stream copyrighted content.

7. Dtube

Dtube is an official Stremio addon that aims to become a decent alternative to YouTube and is widely popular for being decentralized. It has strong links to the STEEM blockchain and allows users to engage with videos and simultaneously earn its cryptocurrency.

8. WatchHub

Are you signed up to multiple streaming services, like HBO, Hulu, Netflix, and more? If so, it can be hard to remember which platform the movie or TV show you wanted to watch is on. Thankfully, there’s an easy solution to this problem when you’re using Stremio – WatchHub.

This add-on collates the directories of all the most popular entertainment providers, including Amazon, Google Play, and iTunes as well as those already mentioned. When you type the name of the movie or TV show you want into the search bar, it will display a list of all the services that offer it, along with pricing for purchase and rental sites.

9. Zooqle

Zooqle is an unofficial addon on Stremio that helps you stream the latest movies, TV shows and documentaries from the most popular torrenting platforms like RARBG and YTS. Like with Popcorn Time and other torrent-based addons, the main thing to watch out for while using this addon is to always keep your VPN turned on to avoid any issues with copyright trolls.

10. OpenSubtitles

Are you hard of hearing? Do you just prefer to watch your entertainment content with subtitles? Whatever the case, you can find subtitles for almost any TV show or movie by installing the OpenSubtitles add-on for Stremio. This add-on has a huge directory of free subtitle files that are compatible with Stremio, including English, Korean, Spanish, French and more.

11. FilmOn

FilmOn is another official Stremio addon that offers free access to around 600 TV channels and over 40,000 movies, documentaries, and TV shows. This platform offers a video on demand service at absolutely no cost, as long as you’re willing to watch old movies. FilmOn is legal to use.

12. Juan Carlos

The Juan Carlos Stremio add-on is community-based and is provided by the torrent website of the same name. This addon allows you to stream content from the torrenting website at no cost. You should, however, exercise caution when accessing this addon by using a VPN since torrent websites are used for distributing pirated content.

13. Vodo

Are you a fan of indie films? Check out VODO. This Stremio add-on is the best place to watch all the latest and greatest independent cinema has to offer. This official app was created in cooperation with Stremio to promote independent media, so it’s well worth installing if you want to be ahead of the curve when it comes to film.

As an added bonus, VODO is completely free and doesn’t contain any pirated content.

Stremio has consistently remained an excellent choice when it comes to streaming top media content worldwide. By installing the addons in this article, you can stay entertained for ages. That is, if you exercise caution and protect yourself with a VPN. VPNs like NordVPN and ExpressVPN are an excellent choice for streaming via Stremio.

Hi, no one. I was also surprised that the add-on is no longer available. Unfortunately, I was unable to find anything related to the issue so far.

  2. darlenetabora

I think if you are subscribing to any of the top three VPNs, you should be safe when streaming online. I use ExpressVPN with no issues

  3. bobsburgers

Oh man, I’ve never even heard of this program, but I’m gonna go look it up now! It has a Netflix AND a Popcorn Time add on? Does that mean I can have the selections from both those programs in one place? That’s AWESOME if it’s true! The worst thing about streaming services is that there’s no way to keep everything in one spot, and I’m always looking for a way to keep things in one place.
