Launched in July 1994, Nova TV is a hugely popular free-to-air television channel which forms part of Nova Broadcasting Group in Bulgaria. This particular channel is home to some of the most well-known productions that Bulgaria has to offer, including the likes of Deal or No Deal, Big Brother Bulgaria, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and many more.

Other shows on its roster include such things as Lost, Sex and the City, and House – world-renowned US TV shows. So, it is safe to say that Nova TV is one of the most loved television channels in Bulgaria, as well as being known as the first commercial TV station in the country.

However, when it comes to accessing the channel outside of Bulgaria, you will probably struggle. This is all thanks to a common issue known as geo-blocking. Luckily, there are ways in which you can avoid this problem.

So, to find out more about geo-blocking and how to watch Nova TV outside Bulgaria, simply read on and we’ll cover everything that you need to know.

What is geo-blocking?

Geo-blocking is a process in which your access to content is restricted based on your geographic location. Many video streaming sites use this in order to limit their audiences, usually for licensing purposes. Essentially, the website or service you are trying to access will know that you are based outside of the country, as it will know your location from your IP address.

Luckily, there is a way in which you can get around geo-blocking. You’ll find out exactly how to do this later in the article. But first, it’s time for you to discover more about how you can watch Nova TV online.

How to Watch Nova TV

As we mentioned earlier, Nova TV was the first commercial TV station in Bulgaria. It can be watched online directly via the Nova Television website, making it easy to watch regardless of the device you are using.

Over the years, Nova TV has established itself as a major channel within Bulgaria – with a whole host of hit shows available for its viewers. So, you certainly shouldn’t have to miss out on these shows when you are outside of the country.

To ensure that you can access geo-restricted content available on Nova TV, you will need to use a VPN and select a server which is based in Bulgaria.

Continue reading as we delve deeper into the reasons why you should get a VPN.

Why you need a VPN

The need for a VPN has become ever more apparent in recent years. With an increasing number of hackers looking to snoop in on your private data, it is absolutely crucial to take the steps necessary to keep your personal information out of harm’s way.

Sure, a solid internet security package will help to fend off any malware and viruses, but that still leaves your IP address visible for all to see. This means that the government and your internet service provider (ISP) can see exactly what you are doing. If you are caught downloading torrents or accessing copyrighted material via third-party add-ons such on programs like Kodi, you could easily find yourself in hot water.

A warning letter is often the first step to getting your internet access cut off. But, some individuals haven’t been quite so lucky – receiving a hefty fine as a result of their online activity. Thankfully, a VPN can help to avoid this from happening. As well as this, it ensures that your web traffic is encrypted, meaning your passwords, personal information, and credit card details stay well away from any opportunist thieves. The next section will look into some of the best VPN services available on the market right now.

Which VPN should I use?

When it comes to choosing which VPN service to use, there are many different options at your disposal. This can make the decision-making process very difficult indeed. Luckily, this section will help you make the right choice depending on your particular needs.

1. NordVPN

NordVPN is undoubtedly the best VPN for Nova TV in 2021. Offering great benefits such as above-average speeds, a choice of over 5500 servers in 59 countries, and excellent security, you’re sure to get a top product for the price you pay. NordVPN is fantastic for streaming services too, meaning you’ll be able to access channels such as Nova TV outside Bulgaria with ease.

The downside is that there’s no free version, so for infrequent users of the internet, this might not be the most appropriate choice. On the other hand, NordVPN has a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 7-day free trial.

So, it’s well worth considering – especially as they have packages available from just $3.30 per month.

2. ExpressVPN

Arguably the best paid VPN provider available for you to choose from, ExpressVPN comes out on top in VPN reviews across the web. This is hardly surprising given the huge list of servers you can choose from, as well as the fast and reliable connection it provides.

For purposes such as torrenting and for Netflix, ExpressVPN is undoubtedly one of the best services out there. You are able to use the service across all of your devices, and there is 24/7 live chat support should you have any issues. However, with a premium service often comes a premium cost.

ExpressVPN is available from $8.32 a month, which may be a tad too expensive for some. But, if it falls within your budget, it is well worth considering.

3. Windscribe VPN

With this particular VPN provider, you have two options available to choose from. First, let’s talk about the free version. With a generous 10 GB monthly allowance, Windscribe Free is for sure one of the top choices when it comes to free VPN services. Many of Windscribe’s competitors offer a much stricter allowance. So, in that regard, Windscribe most definitely has the edge.

While 10 GB would usually be more than enough for users who rarely browse the web, it’s safe to say that regular users would find themselves reaching the limit in no time at all. Thankfully, Windscribe also provides a Pro version in which you can enjoy unlimited usage, make use of more locations, and other added benefits.

So, it’s well worth considering upgrading to the paid service if it fits within your budget. Windscribe is available from just $1.00/month.

  1. Hunks lime

Yes, same thing with other countries that place unnecessary restrictions on the information citizens have access to, but that isn’t a problem anymore with the use of VPN, because everything becomes open.

  2. Woniki P

Geo-blocking is rampant in some countries and I don’t expect Bulgaria to be suffering from modern-day slavery known as censorship in this present century. The government needs to do more in easing their restrictions.

  3. S.O.P.88

I am a HUGE fan of all the TV series listed here! Lost, Sex and the City and House! Haven’t seen the other ones listed here, Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Sounds interesting! Will try and watch it soon. But they have quite a few different ones, released in 1998, then in 2002, and 2017. Which one has the highest rating?

  4. Clement

I became addicted to Big Brother Bulgaria back when I studied there for a semester. It’s bizarre but sooo funny. I’m so glad that thanks to your article I can watch it again!

  5. ElitatheDelight446

Geoblocking is the woooooooooorst. I travel so much and always end up falling in love with television that I can’t watch anywhere I go! It sucks so bad. I’ve tried Windscribe before, and it seems like a good VPN, but I keep hitting the free limit and

I really love watching foreign TV shows, particularly when they are foreign variants of American shows (although America has made its own versions of hit foreign shows too such as “Shameless”). One of my favorite things is watching foreign commercials. Sure, I don’t understand the language all the time, but commercials are often visually oriented so I don’t need to. Cool to know how to watch them by bypassing the geo-blocking thing.
