Voot is a video on demand platform owned by the Indian cable network Viacom18. Launched just three years ago, the service is already proving to be a tough regional competitor for the likes of SonyLIV, DittoTV, Viu, and HotStar. Their name is a commonly used expression to show joy in Usenet posts, as well as the idea of hyping oneself up.
Without a doubt, Voot is a platform that’s clearly aimed at the young public and their seamless cross-platform compatibility makes it so that users can easily switch from Android to iOS or desktop applications.
Voot has an array of shows that air mainly on Colors TV channels and a host of movies produced by Viacom18 themselves. If you’re looking for Bollywood movies, this is the place to go! Unfortunately, like many VoD services, Voot imposes geo-restrictions on its content. Despite this, we’re going to show you how to watch Voot in the USA.
Witness the Best of Reality on Voot
The platform is available in English, but also in several languages spoken in the Indian subcontinent, such as Hindi, Gujarati, Bangla, Kannada, and Marathi. Much like with most popular streaming platforms across the Internet, Voot has a standalone section with parental controls that you can use to stream child-friendly content for the young ones. The most indisputably attractive feature of Voot is that it’s completely free. You might not be a fan of advertisements, which help pay for the exceptional service, but thankfully they are not of the pop-up kind. You can also skip them, which is neat.
Some of the newest Bollywood movies appear on Voot, which is amazing news for fans of Indian productions because the latter is not as readily available outside of India as we’d want them to be. Some of the platform’s must-watch cinematography titles are Bajrao Mastani, Sarkar, Cocktail, while Bigg Boss, MTV Splitsvilla, MTV Roadies, and Ishq Mein Marjawan are some of their most popular series yet. If you’re willing to commit to Voot, there’s a premium option that allows you to get rid of those few ads for as little as $3. Talk about exceptional value for your money!
Just to give you a taste of what you can get on Voot, Ishq Mein Marjawan, or I Will Die in This Love, is about Aarohi Kashyap (Aalisha Panwar/Nia Sharma), a young, free-spirited woman who finally meets the man of her dreams, Deep Raichand (Arjun Bijlani). However, as soon as the couple settles down together, Aarohi is framed by Deep to become a suspect in a series of murders.
Later on, Aarohi sets out to Mumbai to take her revenge on Deep’s scheming, but the relationship between the two is further complicated by the feelings they harbor for one another.
To make matters even worse, Aarohi undergoes plastic surgery that makes her look like the woman who is actually responsible for the murders. From here onwards, the plot twists follow one after the other in an interplay of exchanged identities. Suffice it to say that drama enthusiasts will find an abundance of such content on Voot’s platform. If you didn’t have a reason to watch Voot in the USA thus far, you certainly have one now.
Can you watch Voot online?
Like most online video on-demand services, such as iPlayer, Prime, Hulu, or Netflix, Voot cannot be used by those who either travel or are permanently based outside of certain locations. In this instance, Voot applies geo-blocking to users who do not have an Indian IP address. We know how painful it can be to be restricted from your favorite shows, even more so if you’re someone looking for your fix of Indian content. It’s likely that Viacom18 is debating the same aspects that Netflix did in terms of its copyright licenses.
As it currently stands, the network has a lot to gain by selling the copyrights to their content in more regions, so it’s highly unlikely that they will make the platform available in other countries as well. However, since they do have the free option, there’s a slight chance they might negotiate with regional advertisers, rather than broadcasters.
What this means is that Voot might actually expand using the same free model they have been using so far. If so, they’d certainly go to the top of our list of preferences in terms of VoD.
How to watch Voot in the USA
Lucky for you, there’s an easy way to watch Voot in the USA, as well as all over the world. The only thing you need is a quality VPN that can guarantee an encrypted connection through an Indian server. What a VPN does is redirect and encrypt your internet traffic through a private network of servers before connecting you to the web. This means that you can appear to be connecting from someplace else while traveling wherever you please.
More importantly, your private information stays safe and secure due to the added layer of security provided by encryption protocols. We’ve compiled a list of great VPN services that let you stream Voot content no matter where you are:
For some time now, ExpressVPN has secured their spot as a frontrunner in the VPN industry. Although their service is not the cheapest one currently available, it still comes cheaper than most Netflix subscriptions ($8.32/month on their best plan), and we guarantee it’s worth every penny.
Express gives you access to premium encryption and a zero-logs policy for your internet traffic, connection speeds capable of streaming 4K videos, intuitive applications that require no expert knowledge, and five-star customer service. Not many VPNs can boast responsive, 24/7 live support. More importantly for our purposes, no geo-block can stand in your way with ExpressVPN.

We’ve also prepared a budget solution in case you’re considering Voot because you can’t really afford the prices of most VoD subscriptions. Ivacy VPN is one of the cheapest VPNs on the market that does not compromise your security. For as little as $1.33/month, you get solid online security, great connection speeds, and an overall professional customer support team.
Our only qualm is that Ivacy is based in Singapore, which often cooperates with the 5/9/14 Eyes alliance. However, we could find no evidence of DNS leaks, log-storing, or sharing.

Somewhere in between the former two is PrivateVPN. Similar to Ivacy, PrivateVPN is based in a country that has data-retention laws, namely Sweden. Despite this, their strict no-logs policy seems airtight.
For just $3.82/month, Private offers good online security and privacy, as well as connection speeds reliable enough to stream or torrent your favorite content. Their support, however, does stand to be improved a bit.
