What is VPN Unlimited

VPN Unlimited is a VPN client developed by KeepSolid Inc., a company based out of New York, United States. Starting in 2013, both the company and the VPN expanded to include more features and platforms, after originally launching VPN Unlimited as an Apple-only VPN. VPN Unlimited grew to the point of being the winner of the Editor’s Choice Award from PCMag in 2014 and even launched a business-to-business counterpart in 2018, one that also won multiple awards.

While VPN Unlimited doesn’t claim to have a no-logging policy, the amount of data that they do log is slightly alarming. At any rate, their mission to have an Internet without borders is reflected in their unique and original KeepSolid Wise security protocol, ensuring you’re free to go wherever you want on the Internet, and that information remains accessible by all. This makes it the perfect VPN for countries with censorious regimes.

Given how cheap you can get VPN Unlimited for – and the fact that even at its most expensive it’s still priced consistently with the industry average – is an amazing thing that testifies to how this new-comer was able to get so far ahead so quickly: purely on the strength of its security and features (stealth mode, kill switch, P2P servers, unblocking geo-restrictions, and the list goes on). There are even customizable add-on options such as a personal static IP, or an entire personal VPN server.

Where is VPN Unlimited based and why is this important?

VPNs are often described as being part of a “trust industry.” At the very least, your VPN provider should be transparent, and not engage in any false advertising, since the very point of entering into a contract with a VPN service or product stems from wanting to take greater control over your privacy. To this end, much of what a VPN does would be dictated by the location of its business. It’s good to have a VPN set up through a company in a privacy-friendly jurisdiction, such as Switzerland, the British Virgin Islands, Panama, Seychelles, etc.

Right off the bat, you can imagine that this isn’t something that would inspire confidence. Clearly, VPN Unlimited operates under laws and in an institutional environment that isn’t exactly privacy-friendly. The data surveillance apparatus of the United States is far-reaching. This means caution must be exercised and, naturally, many would take a step back from such a tool.

Compare VPN Unlimited to other providers

We’ve reviewed almost every VPN under the sun – big or small – here on this very website, and even compared the relative merits of comparable ones and ranked them. Unfortunately, VPN Unlimited’s privacy practices often make it come out under the other service, usually by a very small edge. If improved upon in this regard, it would easily overtake many of its peers.

Platforms VPN Unlimited supports

VPN Unlimited supports more platforms than it has custom apps and builds for – such as browser extensions, all without the need to set it up yourself.

The best thing about these is the fact that these are all downloadable VPN clients, as opposed to simply services that you’d have to configure yourself following an installation guide on a website. Instant activation and one-click protection are offered across devices and browsers!

The obvious downside, of course, is the lack of a router app but given the speed at which VPN Unlimited progresses, we wouldn’t be surprised if we see one soon.

VPN Unlimited lets you enjoy whatever you want in peace

A quick look at their Twitter shows that VPN Unlimited is in touch with their user base and, despite their technical achievements and marvels, aren’t simply focused on Internet security in any heavy-handed way. As such, you can use VPN Unlimited if you’re a regular Internet user that torrents, wants to stream foreign content, play games, stay safe while viewing and downloading content, and get good speeds while doing so.

With special servers recommended and reserved for streaming, you already know VPN Unlimited is the perfect VPN for that. The speeds are good and there is no buffering to annoy you. Best of all, it has flown under the radar of Netflix’s great VPN ban, allowing you to access Netflix US, Netflix Japan, and Netflix of various other countries.

That’s not all, of course, as VPN Unlimited works well with Kodi add-ons, BBC iPlayer, Hulu, and many other services, never facing problems in unblocking anything, and never slowing down to buffer even when streaming in high-definition. You can even unblock YouTube, Vimeo, or Dailymotion videos that might be unavailable in your country otherwise.

Torrenting and P2P

Even while claiming that the primary missive of VPN Unlimited isn’t torrenting, they offer P2P connections and torrent downloads in five of their server locations: California 1, Ontario, Romania, Luxembourg, and France.

This is very good news since VPN Unlimited is one of the cheapest and fastest VPNs, and the inclusion of both streaming and torrenting makes it a great all-around package and solution for your problems.

As mentioned earlier, there are no bandwidth limits – another thing a torrent user can let out a happy sigh of relief at.

Unblocking the Internet in China

There are countries in this world where the Internet isn’t the melting-pot of ideas that it might be in other places. Yes, this means there are countries where even VPNs themselves get blocked. Here’s looking at you, China, Russia, Iran, Belarus, and so on.

Luckily, and rather amazingly for its low price and fast speeds, VPN Unlimited is more than fortified and well-equipped to handle the Great Firewall of China through their own unique KeepSolid Wise protocol that works as a stealth protocol. Unfortunately, however, the protocol is available only on iOS 10 or later, Android, Windows, macOS, and Linux devices. Additionally, you’re also limited to only five VPN server locations: US, UK, DE, SG, and HK.

A final word on this would be a friendly reminder about their Privacy Policy: we wouldn’t recommend the service for journalists, activists and the like.
