“ An outstanding VPN that has proven its no logs policy with a full independent audit; superb! “
“ They are stable and reliable, with no drop-offs. This also means that they are good for streaming, Skype and other services that require great speed and a stable connection. “

What is VyprVPN
Launched in 2009 by Golden Frog in Switzerland, VyprVPN positions itself as “the world’s most trusted VPN.” While claiming a quality as ephemeral as trust as your unique selling proposition might be a questionable idea anywhere else, the VPN industry is built on trust as its secondary currency. To drive the point home, VyprVPN recently ditched its logging policy and performed an independent no-logs audit, which verified that VyprVPN does not collect any personally identifiable information from its users.
This approach seems to be working out really well: over its decade of existence, VyprVPN has expanded its server fleet to 700+ servers in over 70 locations and its user base to over a million. With a growing product portfolio that includes a VPN, an encrypted messaging app, and an online gaming proxy tool under its belt, Golden Frog continues to put their pedal to the metal in terms of success.
Apart from its recent strides in the privacy field, VyprVPN is a great all-rounder VPN. It’s technologically secure, it’s fast, it reliably unblocks Netflix, it’s one of the best options for Chinese users, and torrenting is allowed (well, at least not explicitly prohibited).
And yet, VyprVPN does not reach the peak of our best VPNs list, landing on the lower half of our top 10 rankings. Why? There are several reasons, and chief among them is Vypr’s refusal to offer anonymous sign-up and payment options. While some users don’t think twice before providing companies with their personal information, the VPN industry is a different beast. After all, online anonymity is one of the main motives for using a VPN!
Another (admittedly, somewhat nitpicky) reason for VyprVPN’s absence from the top is their worrying stance on torrenting. While P2P file sharing is technically allowed, Golden Frog will terminate your account if they receive a notice from copyright holders regarding your torrenting activities. That said, given Vypr’s no-logs policy, account termination based on DMCA’s extremely unlikely. Still, Vypr’s efforts of having their torrenting cake and eating it too shouldn’t go unnoticed.
Where VyprVPN is based and why it’s important
Golden Frog, the company behind VyprVPN, is incorporated in privacy-friendly Switzerland. Not only does the country not belong to any intelligence sharing alliances such as 5, 9, and even 14-eyes groups, but it also maintains one of the strictest privacy protection stances in the world. Switzerland does not have any regulations that require companies to retain user data, which means that third parties cannot access your data without explicit court approval.
What does a VyprVPN location say?
Not a global surveillance alliance member
No data retention laws for VPN services
One of the best possible locations privacy-wise
Compare VyprVPN to other providers
So far we’ve compared VyprVPN to three other providers, our Number One – ExpressVPN – included. Unsurprisingly, the fight versus the reigning champ went as expected. However, VyprVPN managed to take down the other two. Stay tuned for more comparisons as we pit this jack-of-all-trades against other opponents.

Subscription plans and pricing
When it comes to pricing, VyprVPN gives you two branching choices. You can either become a Basic or a Premium subscriber. As you do, you can choose to pay monthly or annually.
Basic - 1 month
Basic - 12 months
Premium - 12 months
With Basic, you get most of the features (except the Chameleon protocol and VyprVPN Cloud) and you can use the VPN on 3 devices simultaneously for $9.95 per month or $5.00/month if billed annually. This plan would be a good choice for an average user in a democratic country.
If you live in a restricted country such as China, however, the Premium plan with Chameleon and VyprVPN Cloud included will have you covered on 5 devices at the same time. For all that, you’ll have to shell out $12.95 monthly or $6.67 a month if you choose an annual subscription.
However, for the privilege of buying the product, you’ll have to provide some personally identifiable information, including your email address and payment details.
All things considered, VyprVPN’s pricing is reasonable if you choose the yearly subscription model. However, the choice of plans on offer is somewhat limiting. With competitors offering 6-month, 2-year, and 3-year subscriptions, Vypr’s strategy of making it simple might bite it in the tail over the long-term.

Great multi-platform versatility
VyprVPN has a native app for each standard platform and then some. Windows, MacOS, Android, iOS, routers, and smart TVs are all supported, including some less than usual devices like Blackphone, Anonabox, and QNAP. There’s even a special iPad version with a larger map for more convenient server browsing.
Versatility, along with the strong record of bypassing VPN-blocking techniques, is a high point for VyprVPN. Notably missing are video game consoles, but they’re likely to be covered soon by Golden Frog’s gaming proxy Outfox.
Using VyprVPN for fun and privacy
Streaming – it does the job
There’s a ton of things VyprVPN does well and accessing geo-blocked streaming platforms is one of them. While not the Old Reliable of streaming unblockers, Vypr will get you into the coveted Netflix US library.
The same goes for the BBC iPlayer, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and others. Don’t bother trying to watch Netflix from a German server, though. You’ve been warned.
P2P and torrenting – eyepatches not welcome
While you can use VyprVPN to torrent anything you want, there’s something you need to know before firing up your P2P client for a quick sail on the high seas.
Golden Frog, the company behind Vypr, openly states that in case of receiving a copyright complaint related to your downloads, it will shut down your VPN account. How exactly such a procedure would take place given VyprVPN’s recent switch to no-logging is anyone’s guess, though.
Those who want to stay on the 100% safe side, however, should keep their P2P downloads 100% legal as well. Or find a VPN better suited for torrenting.
VyprVPN in China – the Great Firewall buster
Golden Frog’s proprietary Chameleon protocol is the feature that makes VyprVPN shine in China and other restrictive countries, such as Iran, Russia, and Turkey. The Chameleon protocol is specifically designed to defeat VPN blocking and throttling attempts, such as those made by the Great Firewall of China, and it works like a charm.
Those who want to take their internet freedom a step further can also utilize the VyprVPN Cloud feature. It’s a dedicated cloud VPN server offered to VyprVPN Premium and Business customers for added security and anonymity, which should make your connection practically unblockable.
Released by Golden Frog in 2009, VyprVPN entered the market amidst rising public concerns about data monitoring and collection and positioned itself as a perfect tool against online intrusion and snooping.
