Now in its 17th season, Made in Chelsea lies firmly in the hearts of well over a million regular viewers. With its focus on the sensational love lives of affluent millennials in West London, the structured-reality TV series has become a household name in the UK, where it is regularly broadcasted on E4.
In the age of streaming, many fans can rely on the ability to catch up with any episodes they may have missed. This is especially relevant for those who are currently outside of the UK and, quite understandably, do not want to miss out on their favorite TV show.
With the latest season having premiered on March 25th, 2019, Made in Chelsea season is with us once again. For those who are not able to catch each episode during its original broadcast, don’t worry: here’s a primer on how to watch Made in Chelsea online.
Where is Made in Chelsea available to stream?
After its initial broadcast, Made in Chelsea is added to Channel 4’s video-on-demand platform, All 4 (previously known as 4oD). All 4 is free to view in the United Kingdom, provided you have a TV license, which costs around 197$ per year.
Made in Chelsea is also available through a streaming service called Hayu, which specializes in reality TV series. Hayu costs around 6.55$ per month to subscribe, and is available to view in the following countries:
- United Kingdom
- The Netherlands
If you’re in Italy, you can view Made in Chelsea through NOW TV, which comes partnered with a Hayu subscription (NOW TV is also available in the UK and Ireland). This service is slightly more expensive and is currently priced at 8.99$ per month.
British viewers may not wish to pay for something they can access for free, but the benefit of streaming Made in Chelsea via Hayu or NOW TV is that they do not run ads, whereas All 4 runs three or four ads at various points through episodes. (You also do not need a TV license for Hayu or NOW TV!)
Can I watch Made in Chelsea from outside those regions?
Unfortunately, no. Content hosted on All 4 and Hayu is only licensed for the regions in which their service is active, and so the services employ geo-blocking to ensure the content cannot be accessed from non-licensed areas.
If you are planning a trip abroad and want to stay on track with Made in Chelsea while you’re away, All 4 has the option to download content to be viewed offline.
However, you cannot do this with upcoming episodes, so if an episode is broadcast while you’re away, you’ll be unable to view it until you’re back in the UK.
Nobody wants this, of course; if you’re away for a long time, there’ll be so much other TV to catch up on when you get home, too!
One of the best solutions to this issue is to use a virtual private network (VPN). Let’s take a look at what makes these so great for streaming Made in Chelsea from outside of the licensed zones for streaming services.
Why use a VPN?
A VPN diverts your traffic via a remote server, which disguises your real IP address and makes websites believe you’re in a different place than the one you’re actually in.
VPN providers use large fleets of servers to make this work. These servers will be placed in various locations around the world, allowing the user to pick and choose their pretend location.
To access All 4, for instance, you would choose a server located in the UK in order to bypass the service’s UK-only geo-restrictions.
Once you’re connected, the VPN provider then encrypts the channel to hide the fact you’re using a proxy. This is because license-restricted services such as All 4 do not want anyone accessing their content by spoofing their location; after all, this still constitutes a licensing violation.
Streaming services are smarter than that, though. Many VPN providers use shared IP addresses on their servers, which means multiple users could gain access from the same address. When this happens, streaming services will block that IP address, which renders it useless.
As such, it’s worth knowing the right VPN to use for watching Made in Chelsea abroad, so here’s a handy list of the best options to go for.
1. NordVPN – the best choice
NordVPN is one of the best-known VPN providers on the market. This is partially due to its combination of competitive pricing, great speeds, ease of use, and most importantly for our concerns, a massive fleet of servers that makes it particularly great for torrenting or streaming.
While it mostly uses shared IP addresses, NordVPN is constantly adding new servers, and as of now, it has over 5,700. As almost 700 of those are in the UK – there is always another server to try if one of them has been detected and blocked by your streaming service of choice.
If you don’t fancy taking this chance, though, you can always reserve a dedicated UK IP address, which will become yours and yours only. This will make it impossible for streaming services to notice that you’re accessing their site through a VPN.
This comes at a price, of course; the price of a dedicated IP address is around 5.90$ per month, which goes on top of NordVPN’s usual starting price of $3.49/month. Nevertheless, that remains one of the cheapest options on the market today.
2. Astrill VPN – The Fastest Choice
NordVPN is no slouch when it comes to connection speeds, but nothing compares to Astrill VPN, which is among the fastest providers on the market today.
What may alarm users at first is the asking price. Astrill is a fairly expensive VPN provider; its plans start at $10.00 per month, and it’s an extra 5.00$ on top of that if you wish to purchase a dedicated IP.
And really, you’re going to need that dedicated IP because Astrill’s smaller server fleet makes it harder for it to convince streaming sites it isn’t a VPN. With the dedicated IP, though, there’s no stopping you from enjoying Made in Chelsea ‘til your heart’s content.
If you’re trying to figure out how to watch Made in Chelsea online without any risk of glitches, buffering, or connection lags, then Astrill is as good as it gets.
3. Ivacy VPN – the budget choice
While more upmarket competitors such as Astrill VPN may provide the best speeds overall, Ivacy VPN can still be trusted with streaming due to its well-optimized servers and a dedicated IP package that won’t cost you an arm and a leg.
Indeed, the Ivacy basic package starts at around $0.99/month, and the additional dedicated IP feature is an extra $1.99 per month. These two packages combined therefore cost only a little bit more than NordVPN’s starting price!
With its speeds and streaming capabilities—and even without the dedicated IP, it’s generally reliable—Ivacy is a great tool for keeping up with Made in Chelsea while you’re abroad.
It’s also one of the most lightweight, user-friendly VPN providers on the market, so it’s a particularly solid choice if you just need it for that reason.
Hopefully, by now you’ll be all set with your knowledge on how to watch Made in Chelsea online, and you’ll never have to miss an episode when you’re traveling outside of the UK again
When all is said and done, we’d definitely recommend NordVPN as the best all-rounder, but all three choices included here are great tools for making sure you can keep up with Made in Chelsea no matter what.
