Ireland VPN servers - get an Irish IP address in 2025

Ireland VPN

As of April 2025, NordVPN remains the best VPN for Ireland, as it has over 50 Irish VPN servers, easily unblocks RTE, and offers high-speed connections. NordVPN retained up to 93% of my download speeds during in-house testing, resulting in lag-free HD and 4K streaming on any device.

You need a VPN for Ireland if you want to unblock geo-restricted websites like RTE and TG4 outside of the country, or if you want to keep access to your Irish services when traveling abroad. However, it’s also a crucial tool for avoiding Ireland’s internet monitoring policies; Eircom’s three-strikes rule could see your internet cut off if you’re tracked by your ISP. I recommend reading on to discover the best Ireland VPN and the reasons why you should use one.

NordVPN is the best VPN for Ireland thanks to minimal impact on your connection speeds and airtight security features that prevent your true location from leaking. During in-house tests, I saw consistent connections of 400 Mbps+ and no lag while streaming BBC iPlayer.

Subscribe if:

You want to unblock global content: NordVPN offers 7400+ servers in 118 countries, making it the perfect choice for accessing international streaming platforms like Hulu, US Netflix, and YouTube TV. With over 7,200 servers in the UK, NordVPN is also one of the top VPNs for streaming BBC iPlayer in Ireland. From my experience, NordVPN consistently unblocked BBC iPlayer and other global services in Ireland, delivering fast, stable, and uninterrupted connections every time.

You want a speedy service with servers in Ireland: NordVPN has a fleet of 50+ Ireland VPN servers, which allowed me to watch RTE Player and TG4 without issue. While testing those servers, I saw an average speed of 468 Mbps on a 500 Mbps connection – download speed retention of around 93%. This allowed me to watch high-definition streams without lag or buffering. When I tested a Call of Duty server, I maintained a low ping and never saw any lag spikes.

You want a VPN with proven privacy: My in-house tests with NordVPN included IP, DNS, and WebRTC leak testing. I also vetted the kill switch and obfuscated servers. Not once did I see my true location leaked or exposed, which meant uninterrupted access to streaming on RTE and BBC iPlayer.

Don’t subscribe if:

You’re a bargain hunter: NordVPN isn’t overly expensive at $3.09/month, but it’s also not the cheapest premium VPN. Cheaper Ireland VPN providers include Surfshark and TotalVPN – though neither is as fast as NordVPN, nor do they offer the same robust level of security tools.

You don’t want to be limited by connections: NordVPN has a limit of 10 simultaneous connections. However, this tends to be enough for most people – and you can simply install NordVPN on your router if you need coverage for the entire household.

Surfshark is the best Ireland VPN thanks to a solid 60+ Ireland VPN servers that offer fast speeds and strong privacy. What’s more, this is the only VPN I’m recommending that has unlimited simultaneous connections under one account – ideal for tech junkies or large groups of friends or family who can share a login.

Subscribe if:

You want a full security suite for all your devices: Surfshark VPN is the only premium VPN that imposes no limit on simultaneous connections. This gives you the power to connect an unlimited number of mobile devices and laptops, TV sticks, consoles, and anything else supported by the VPN. You can even share them with family members in the same household, saving you further money.

You’re looking for ultra-fast speeds: Surfshark’s speeds are extremely reliable and delivered around 465 Mbps on average during my in-house tests across 10 international VPN servers, including in Ireland. I tested streams on TG4 and RTE without suffering any lag or disconnects. What’s more, the international spread of 3200+ servers worldwide means you can unblock any other websites you choose in locations like the US and Europe.

You’re looking for inexpensive long-term coverage: Surfshark is among the cheapest premium VPN providers that offer a good number of Ireland VPN servers. Starting from $1.99/month, you can also get 3 months extra free, in addition to a 7-day free trial on mobile and 30-day money-back guarantee across all platforms.

Don’t subscribe if:

You want dedicated servers for specific uses: Surfshark lacks the same degree of server options seen in VPNs like NordVPN. For example, you can’t choose specific torrenting servers or obfuscated servers. That said, it does have Camouflage Mode that is an obfuscation feature when traveling or accessing the internet in areas of heavy censorship.

Proton VPN is one of the best Ireland VPNs thanks to offering a free version that gives you access to Irish VPN servers. That aside, it also offers a turbocharged premium service with a huge server fleet and advanced privacy features.

Subscribe if:

You want a totally unlimited free VPN: Proton VPN is the best free VPN for Ireland and the only free VPN with no data limitations. While the free version lacks Ireland servers, it’s the only freemium VPN offering strong security and unlimited data – I recommend trying it, before considering the powerful premium version that offers a 30-day money-back guarantee and access to Ireland IP addresses. Proton VPN never sells your data as a trade-off for using the free service.

You value robust security and privacy: Proton VPN was developed by the team behind the super-secure Proton Mail service. It uses powerful AES-256 encryption and Secure Core servers. With headquarters in Switzerland, your data isn't at risk of being shared under international data-sharing alliances like the 14 Eyes Alliance.

You want to stream on the free plan: While Proton VPN’s free version is largely without limits, the one issue you will face is reduced speed. Connections are throttled on the free tier, meaning you won’t be able to stream in high-definition without facing issues like lag. However, this problem goes away if you upgrade to the lightning-fast premium servers.

You need a free VPN with Ireland servers: Proton VPN doesn’t offer an Irish VPN server in its free plan. However, you can still use the 30-day money-back guarantee to try out Proton VPN premium risk free and access VPN servers in Ireland without restrictions!

While this limits options for jumping between international locations, it does give you a super-cheap option if you know that you want an Ireland IP address and aren’t interested much in unblocking other websites abroad.

IPVanish is the best Ireland VPN thanks to a respectable number of Irish VPN servers that serve up powerful speeds. I was able to choose from 14 locations in Ireland, which saw me obtain speeds that peaked at around 460 Mbps during in-house tests.

You value unlimited connections: Using IPVanish’s unlimited simultaneous connections, connect your mobile phone, tablet, laptop, and desktop computer on one account – even on the basic plan. Alternatively, protect the kids’ devices if you have a family. I recommend this VPN to families traveling abroad who want to continue accessing Irish sites.

You want to use a VPN on your router: IPVanish offers router installation support, making it easy to protect all your household’s devices in one step. Install IPVanish on your router to fully protect any device that connects to your network. This means every device in your household will be able to use an Irish IP address.

Don’t subscribe if:

You want advanced functionality like multi-hop servers: IPVanish lacks some of the advanced security and privacy features seen in other premium VPNs. For example, there are no multi-hop servers that can be useful for disguising VPN traffic. That said, you still get the security basics covered, including AES-256 encryption, a strict no-logs policy, and kill switch. These features are essential for properly cloaking your true IP and avoiding being blocked by Ireland websites.

You’re looking for ultra-fast speeds: While download speeds were strong on most of the 10 international servers I tested, they dropped significantly on faraway servers. In addition, I saw high ping on at least 5 of the servers I tested, making it spotty for streamers and gamers who want a strong connection wherever they are. Fortunately, speeds on Irish and UK VPN servers were among the fastest.

How to get an Ireland IP address: step-by-step

The most reliable way to get an Irish IP address is to use a VPN and select a server located in Ireland. This will route your internet traffic through that Irish server, making it appear as if you are browsing from within Ireland. As a result, you’ll be able to access sites that are usually blocked outside the country, like RTE.

Step 1: Choose a VPN service that offers servers in Ireland

First, choose a reliable VPN that has VPN servers in Ireland. NordVPN and Surfshark both have a solid lineup, offering 50+ and 60+ Ireland VPN servers respectively. However, I recommend choosing NordVPN, now 77% off, since it achieved the fastest speeds in my in-house tests and offers the most robust security toolkit for hiding your IP.

nordvpn for ireland

Whether you’re browsing, streaming, or gaming, NordVPN’s robust application won’t hold you back. It was easily able to unblock RTE, as well as other sites in the US, France, Germany, and Australia. With download speed retention of 93% and a super-low ping, it’ll give you lag-free connections for any demanding activities.

Step 2: Download and install the VPN app on your device

Download NordVPN and install the client on your preferred device. NordVPN supports Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. If you want to, you can even install it on smart TVs and Fire Sticks, as well as your router to cover all the devices in your household at once.

If you’re an Android user and want to stream or unblock Ireland websites from that device, I recommend getting the app from the Google Play Store so that you get a 7-day free trial. Otherwise, you can install NordVPN on any device for a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Step 3: Connect to an Irish server

Once you’ve downloaded the client, you can log into NordVPN with the credentials that you created. Use the interactive map to locate Ireland or simply choose an Ireland VPN server from the list of servers down the left-hand side.

NordVPN's Irish IP addresses

Once you’re connected, you’re free to access any of the Irish websites that would’ve been blocked to you before, such as RTE. As long as your VPN connection remains active, you’ll be able to bypass geo-restrictions and browse or stream as much as you like.

Why do you need a VPN in Ireland?

An Ireland VPN helps you to unblock region-locked websites that are usually only available to Ireland residents. No matter where you’re located, you can connect to an Irish VPN server to bypass restrictions. Similarly, residents of the country can keep their access to their favorite TV channels and online streaming services by using a VPN to connect while on vacation or business trips abroad. However, there are other reasons to use a VPN in Ireland, as I’ll explain further below.

Internet censorship in Ireland

In Ireland, internet censorship is mostly intended to block access to websites that share unlicensed content. This includes torrent sites and illegal streaming websites, such as The Pirate Bay, 123Movies, and Putlocker.

For over a decade, Eircom has been pushing a three-strikes policy. Now, users get warnings if they engage in illegal downloading or streaming. Get three warnings, and your ISP could temporarily cut off your internet service. Other ISPs, including Vodafone and Sky, are also expected to follow these rules, increasing the risk to anyone who’s engaging in piracy. What’s more, Irish courts have been seen ordering ISPs to block specific sites, and the Irish High Court is issuing injunctions to block websites like these.

Fortunately, a VPN can help you to simply sidestep these restrictions and carry on using the internet as normal. By masking your IP address and location with a VPN, you can continue to access blocked sites, and stream or download content without being tracked by your ISP.

Access geographically restricted content

Ireland has a number of streaming sites that are geo-restricted to Irish IP addresses, including RTE, TG4, Eir Sport, and TV3. If you want to watch any of these channels from abroad, you’ll need to connect to an Ireland VPN server. However, a similar problem exists for Irish residents attempting to access international websites.

For example, you cannot access BBC iPlayer from Ireland, as it’s region-locked to residents within the United Kingdom. Fortunately, a VPN can help here too. By connecting to an English, Scottish, or Welsh VPN server, you’ll be able to unblock and stream BBC iPlayer and ITVX without geo-restrictions. This is the case for all international platforms. In other words, if you subscribe to a reliable VPN, you’ll be able to access any region-locked website no matter where you are in the world.

NordVPN boasts 50+ Ireland VPN servers, ensuring that you won’t be slowed down even during high periods of use. Find a blacklisted server? Simply switch to another one to unblock RTE, TV3, and Eir Sport and enjoy high-speed, lag-free connections with NordVPN.

Robust anonymity toolkit

Yes, using a VPN in Ireland is completely legal and the country doesn’t ban nor impose any kind of blocks on VPN services. However, using a VPN for illegal activities can still lead to legal trouble. For example, while you’ll easily be able to bypass copyright restrictions and access torrenting websites, downloading copyright-protected materials is still against the law. Using a VPN to bypass website blocks and access legal streaming services like RTE while avoiding illegal, pirated content is generally the best approach if you want to stay on the right side of the law.

Irish content you can watch with a VPN

Connecting to an Irish VPN server will reassign your IP address, unblocking region-locked TV channel streams and other services that are normally blocked to people outside of Ireland. This is useful not only for people who live outside of Ireland, but for Irish residents who have traveled abroad temporarily. By downloading NordVPN and connecting to an Ireland VPN server, I’ve been able to confirm through in-house tests that you can access the following platforms and shows:

Irish streaming platform TV show
RTE Fair City
Ireland’s Fittest Family
The Ray D'Arcy Show
The Late Late Show
TG4 Ros na Rún
GAA Beo
Tóraíocht na hÁilleachta
Cúla4
Ceol ar an Imeall
Eir Sport Premier League Football
UEFA Champions League

TV3 (Virgin Media Television) The Six O'Clock Show
The Voice of Ireland
Ireland's Got Talent
Gogglebox Ireland
Married to a Stranger
Virgin Media Player Love/Hate
The Best of Graham Norton
Celebrity Gogglebox

To put these services to the test, I tried firing up each provider's website after gaining my Irish IP address. When I tested RTE, I was able to immediately start streaming regional news broadcasts from within the country. I didn't see a single instance of lag or buffering thanks to NordVPN's 400 Mbps+ connection speed on the Irish server.

Since NordVPN has a spread of 50+ VPN servers in Ireland, make sure that you try switching servers on the rare occasion that you encounter any buffering issues. High demand on a single server can lead to slightly slower connections, though it’s unlikely that you’ll ever experience this if you have a solid connection to begin with.

Use NordVPN to watch the best of Irish TV online

Final thoughts

Ireland residents traveling abroad will lose access to their favorite Irish-only shows on TV channels like RTE and TG4. Similarly, people that live outside Ireland can't access these sites at all due to geo-restrictions.

Fortunately, there is a simple solution – download an Ireland VPN, connect to a server within the country, and continue accessing previously blocked sites as normal. This also helps safeguard you against harsh anti-piracy and monitoring practices that can result in your ISP taking action against you in some situations.

NordVPN is the best VPN for Ireland, thanks to having 50+ servers located in the country with lightning-fast speeds that'll let you stream lag-free in high-definition and 4K. You can get started with a 7-day free trial on Android mobile devices or simply dive right in on any device risk free by using the 30-day money-back guarantee!

Ireland VPN FAQ

How to access Irish websites from the UK?

Access Irish websites from the UK by using a VPN to connect to an Irish VPN server; this’ll change your IP address so it looks like you’re browsing within Ireland, unblocking websites that were previously inaccessible. NordVPN performed best during my in-house tests with Irish VPN servers.

Which VPN has an Irish IP address?

Many VPNs offer an Irish IP address, but the best VPNs with Ireland VPN servers are NordVPN, Surfshark, and Proton VPN. Personally, I recommend choosing Surfshark for access to over 60 lightning-fast Ireland VPN servers that retained up to 93% of my speeds during in-house tests.

How much does a VPN cost in Ireland?

You can get the best Ireland VPNs for between $2 – $4/month, with NordVPN costing $3.09/month, Surfshark $1.99/month, and Proton VPN $3.59/month. My in-house tests determined that these are the best providers for giving you access to Irish VPN servers that are not blocked or blacklisted.

Is there a free VPN for Ireland?

Only a handful of free VPNs have Irish servers and I would not consider them safe choices owing to poor security or risky data-sharing policies. Even Proton VPN, the best free VPN in most cases, does not have Ireland servers. I recommend trying NordVPN’s 30-day money-back guarantee, giving you a whole month to use the service while still being able to get a full refund if you choose to cancel.

Will a VPN allow me to watch BBC iPlayer in Ireland?

Yes, a VPN will let you watch BBC iPlayer in Ireland if you connect to a UK VPN server. I put 20 VPNs through in-house testing to determine which were most effective at bypassing blocks without laggy streams. Choose NordVPN, Surfshark, or Proton VPN to bypass blocks and watch BBC iPlayer – and ITVX – in Ireland.

I’m sure Ireland must be working with some countries of the 5 Eyes Group. Therefore, I would highly recommend getting a VPN there, even though users’ data isn’t as compromised as in countries like Saudi Arabia or China.

Surfshark and PrivateVPN are also two good ones. Surfshark allows unlimited streaming access, and has more than 500 servers in 50 countries. PrivateVPN allows anonymous torrenting and free remote setup, and allows access to Netflix. It has more than 80 servers located in 56 countries. Both offer 30-day money back guarantee.

I’ve tried Surfshark, comparing to some bigger VPN providers 500 servers is not that much but it’s enough to bypass geo-restrictions when needed and the speeds they offer are top-notch. I accessed USA Netflix from Ireland using it so can confirm it works.
