Disney+ is an online video service where you can stream hundreds of Disney movies, TV shows, and other content. It is still relatively new but already considered a rival to many online entertainment streaming service providers, including Apple TV+, Amazon, and even Netflix.

The services provided by Disney+ belong to the Walt Disney Company and its affiliates. These include Lucasfilm, National Geographic, Twentieth Century, Pixar, Marvel Studios, Fox and many more companies.

Disney Plus went live on November 12, 2019 in the US, Netherlands, and Canada. Currently, it is available in:

  • Netherlands
  • U.S.
  • Canada
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • United Kingdom
  • Ireland
  • Germany
  • Austria
  • Italy
  • Spain
  • Switzerland

As for the rest of the world, Asia and Pacific countries will receive it throughout 2020 and 2021, and Disney+ will be launched in Eastern European and Latin American countries in the first half of 2021.

However, where there’s a will there’s a way: if you can’t wait to watch Disney movies online, you can use a service like NordVPN to access Disney+ streaming content.

Watch Disney+ with a VPN

If you are eager to watch Disney+ content, you can gain access to the platform and its wide range of TV shows and movies using a VPN for Disney Plus. A VPN will allow you to connect through a remote server, making it seem like the VPN server IP is your IP. This way, you can fool the platform that you’re a resident of some other country.

For example, if you want to access Disney+, you can connect to Disney+ through a VPN server in the countries listed above. But don’t get fooled: while there are hundreds of VPN services that can mask your IP, not all of them will give you good speeds (and neither will most be able to deal with Disney Plus banning their servers).

Best VPNs for watching Disney+

Different VPNs have different capabilities. The most important variables when choosing a VPN to access Disney Plus from your location are the VPN’s speed, level of security, and number of servers. Three VPN applications stand out as great choices for unblocking and watching Disney Plus movies and TV shows. These are SurfShark, NordVPN, and VyprVPN.

What’s more, after subscribing to the provider you’ll get access to its excellent selection of protocols, including its proprietary Chameleon protocol. It was created to bypass geo-blocks in countries like China, Russia, or Iran.

Disney Plus bundles

Disney Plus bundles allow you to access Disney+ content and Disney affiliate content. Here are the available deals:

  • Standard monthly Disney Plus bundle: $6.99/month + 7-day free trial
  • Standard yearly Disney Plus bundle: $69.99 ($5.83/month)
  • Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ package: $12.99/month

If you already have a Hulu subscription, you can keep it and add Disney+ for an additional $5.99/month – not a bad deal.

Why is Disney+ blocked in my country?

You may be wondering why Disney+ is inaccessible in your country. You are not alone. Thousands of fans don’t understand why they cannot simply get any content in their countries. After all, it’s not technologically impossible.

Part of the reason is that streaming content providers are not always the sole owners of the license to provide you with content. Therefore, to avoid legal and licensing issues, they will ensure that only people within a certain geographic location can watch the content they provide. The block persists until the company possesses the exclusive right to air such content in that location.

Here’s an example of geo-blocking: Universal gives Netflix America the right to broadcast a movie or a TV show. This right only applies to Netflix US, which means that anyone with a UK IP (or other locations) will not find it on their Netflix.

So if you happen to be outside the countries that have Disney+, you can only enjoy its content by using a VPN.

What can you watch on Disney+?

Walt Disney has already indicated that you will be able to watch everything they have produced through the Disney+ content streaming service. This already includes several TV shows and movies.

Also, you will be able to access a wide range of content from the Walt Disney Company (Studios and Television division) and its affiliates, including Marvel Studios. This company has created more than 30 movies and TV shows in the last decade, and all Marvel Cinematic Universe will be made available on Disney+ exclusively.

Two shows already on Disney+ are the Mandalorian and High School Musical.

The Mandalorian – The show features a sole bounty hunter that travels through the galaxy away from the reach of the New Republic.

High School Musical – This show is about two schoolmates who discreetly try out for a musical in their school. The decision changes their lives and makes them quite famous in their school.

Useful stuff, thank you so much. What about free vpns, can you recommend any free vpn provider?
Also I’ve read may posts on reddit mentioning that Express VPN is not working with Disney Plus.

      Hi Jud,

Apologies for the very late answer. I can confirm that ExpressVPN does work with Disney Plus because I’ve tried it – unless something has changed, which seems doubtful with the size of their network in the US and other Disney-eligible countries.

As for free services: you could give ProtonVPN a try (their free version has servers both in the US and the Netherlands), or Windscribe (although the latter has a 10GB/month data limit). I don’t really want to recommend any of the fully free VPNs because they come with their own security issues.
