With an increasing number of data breaches, surveillance, and cyberthreats, your online privacy is more important than ever. If you care about your confidentiality and digital safety, you should get the best no-logs VPN.

The most anonymous VPN will provide the highest level of privacy and will keep your browsing history completely secret. Moreover, it will prevent your Internet Service Provider (ISP), the government, and various snoopers from tracking your activities.

But with so many zero-log VPN services on the market, it’s hard to choose the best one. Thus, in this article, we will look at the virtual private networks that don’t keep your logs and make you anonymous online. Moreover, we will show you how to determine if a VPN is truly no-logs. Lastly, you’ll learn how to install and use a VPN.

Top 5 no-logs VPN providers: shortlist

  1. Best most anonymous VPN
  2. Zero-logs VPN for multiple devices
  3. Free no-logs VPN
  4. Versatile VPN that doesn’t keep logs
  5. Affordable VPN that doesn’t log

Why should you use a zero-log VPN?

In essence, the best VPN that doesn’t keep logs will protect your confidentiality online. Without extra precautions, your ISP, the government, and snoopers can easily see what you’re doing online. Luckily, a VPN can encrypt your data and mask your IP address & location. So, you’ll avoid red flags and massive privacy breaches.

NordVPN no leaks

Furthermore, you’ll amplify your security with a reliable, anonymous VPN. Various malicious actors will seek vulnerabilities to steal your precious data and money. That won’t be a problem with a secure VPN, however. Best services use AES-256 encryption and other features to prevent unauthorized access.

And if you want to access geo-blocked content from around the world, a zero-logs VPN can help you with that. Most streaming platforms restrict some shows and movies due to copyright laws. Luckily, a trustworthy VPN won’t leak any crucial information and will help you circumvent these blocks.

Besides that, this zero-log VPN is excellent for security. AES-256 encryption, a robust kill switch, and IP & DNS leak protection ensure that your data and browsing history remain unseen. Plus, you can use Double VPN to twofold your safety. And if you want to bypass strict firewalls, utilize obfuscated servers.

Another magnificent zero-logs VPN is Atlas VPN. While it’s not based in an ideal location (the US), it has a strict zero logs policy and an excellent freemium version. That makes it the best free no-logs VPN. Nevertheless, we’ll be looking at the far superior premium version.

Atlas VPN will protect you against various security and privacy threats with the SafeBrowse feature. Additionally, MultiHop+ will route your internet traffic through 2 servers. Or, with the SafeSwap feature, your IP address will constantly rotate, making it harder to track.

You’ll get to explore 1000+ servers in 42+ countries, and for the best speeds, don’t forget to use the WireGuard tunneling protocol. The icing on the cake – Atlas VPN has no device limits, so you can keep all of your devices secure and private.

The only thing that raises some red flags is that this VPN is owned by Kape Technologies, which is a bit problematic.

ExpressVPN has thousands of pieces of hardware in 94+ countries. And you won’t have to worry about snail-like connectivity with Lightway tunneling protocol. Unlike other providers, this no-logs VPN has a bug bounty program. It lets independent testers find and report hiccups that the developers might have missed.

While all contenders are great no-logs VPNs, NordVPN is the most anonymous VPN on the market. That’s due to its strict zero-logs policy, confidentiality-respecting base jurisdiction, and RAM-only servers. On top of that, this provider offers Double VPN servers and various anonymous payment options, further boosting your online privacy.

How we tested no-logs VPNs

To pick the Top 5 most anonymous VPNs, we analyzed dozens of services and ran extensive tests. While having an honest no-logs policy is the main criterion when choosing a provider, there are a few more things you should pay close attention to. So, here’s what we tested:

  • No-logs policy. We ditched anything that collects more than required to run the service.
  • Independent audits. Claiming to have no logs is one thing, and saying that after a third-party audit is another.
  • Jurisdiction. A country without data retention laws and not among the Fourteen Eyes members is a big plus.
  • Anonymous payments. A true no-logs VPN should offer at least cryptocurrencies as a payment method. Bonus points go for cash and gift cards.
  • Confidential registration. Most VPNs require your email for account creation. Others simply generate a code for logging in.
  • Reputation. There is no point in getting a VPN if it has negative reviews and an extremely shady past.
  • Servers. Ideally, we sought out VPNs with RAM-only servers as they provide more privacy and security.
  • Security features. We made sure that all VPNs have AES-256 encryption, a kill switch, and IP & DNS leak protection. Extra points went to VPNs that offer malware blockers and Multi-hop servers.

NordVPN is your ultimate weapon against privacy breaches and other online threats. It offers great confidentiality features that will keep you anonymous in the digital world. Plus, it provides a generous discount and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Or you can try the best VPN on the market with a 7-day free trial.

Types of VPN logs

Types of VPN logsWhat’s collected
Connection logsTime and date of VPN connection, session durations, assigned IP addresses
IP logsAssigned IP addresses
Traffic logsWebsites visited, downloads & uploads, amount of data transferred
DNS logsDomain name system requests
Error logsConnection issues & user’s device, operating system, other technical details

All of these logs can be used to track and identify your digital activities. That, of course, raises a lot of concerns, especially if you’re in a country under heavy censorship. Therefore, you need to choose the best VPN without logs. An anonymity-respecting provider such as NordVPN won’t store any logs, keep tabs on you, or disclose your information to the authorities.

Which free VPN does not keep logs?

Sadly, most completely free VPNs keep and store logs. They do so to sell it to advertisers and other third parties. Additionally, some shady no-pay services go as far as injecting malware onto your devices. And even if you do find a somewhat decent no-logs free VPN, it won’t have many servers, must-have privacy features, and reliable speeds.

Atlas VPN free no-logs VPN

We recommend getting a reliable freemium VPN if you care about your privacy but can’t spend money. They might have data caps, and limited server fleets. Nevertheless, they will keep you secure and anonymous. Among the best ones are Atlas VPN and Proton VPN.

VPN providers that store users’ logs

As mentioned, free no-logging VPNs are basically non-existent. Here are the most notorious VPN providers that store logs:

  • Betternet VPN. Logs extensively and archives your original IP address, connection timestamps, actual location, and device information.
  • HideMyAss. While they claim to not log, HMA collects connection logs, traffic logs, and other personal information. Redditors share multiple examples of HideMyAss disclosing crucial information.
  • HoxxVPN. Based in the US. Logs extensively. Cooperates with the government and other third parties.
  • Hola VPN. Offers no privacy. Collects and exposes your information. And it’s actually a volunteer-powered P2P network where you share your IP and bandwidth.

The best alternative to stay completely anonymous is to either get a freemium VPN (which is a bit limited) or grab a premium free trial VPN. You’ll get total privacy and security for a limited time. Plus, you’ll be able to stream, game, and torrent trouble-free without having to worry about various threats.

All of our top no-logs VPN services tend to offer anonymous payment options and the possibility of not disclosing your personal email address.

A strict no-logs policy is one of the key factors when choosing your VPN provider. Ivacy shouldn’t be on this best zero log vpn list because they are shady and their it’s parent company is super shady. Why include such a VPN here? PureVPN were saying they’re a vpn without logs and that turned out to be a lie so why should we trust Ivacy?

      Hi there –

We’d love to hear your reasons why you believe Ivacy is super shady.

  2. Kareem2002

Does private internet access keep logs? Would like to get an account with them and I don’t know what to believe. Most people seem to say no, yet there are a few that said it does. I want to know if this is a no log vpn or not.

    1. avatar
      Julie Cole

      Hi there Kareem,

Private Internet Access has a clear no-logging policy. In fact, a 2015 court case gives backing to this claim. You can read more about them in our full Private Internet Access review.

    2. Eileen

Just like it says in the article, PIA is one of the best vpn without logs on the market. And I am certain of this because I use them and have tested them to see for myself. All the things they did in the past (denying the FBI details because they don’t keep logs) just proves they are honest in what they say. What’s even more impressive is the fact that they are located in the US, making it even harder for them to remain a no log vpn and yet, they still do it.

  3. Johnston

Is NordVPN trustworthy? And does NordVPN store logs? I’ve heard a lot of good things about this company and I want to make sure they are the real deal. Their prices are just too good to be true.

    1. avatar
      Julie Cole

      Hi Johnston,

NordVPN is definitely a trustworthy VPN provider. In fact, that’s why they’re one of the top 2 VPNs in the world. They also recently had their no-log policy audited by the big 4 auditing firms, PwC. You can read a lot more about it in our full NordVPN review.

    2. Caitlyn

I think NordVPN is trustworthy and I use them because they are based in Panama and it’s easier for them to be a no log vpn than it is for others located in other countries. There are no nordvpn logs because they chose their base in a great country. More and more people are using them because they have good prices and are offering a great service overall. There’s always something to improve like speed when on some servers and constant improvements as time goes by and I think Nord is capable of making these changes and remaining one of the top 3 providers.

  4. Deardevil

I personally like Surfshark. It’s a no log vpn, the 2 year plan they have is among the best you can find anywhere, they do a great job overall and can be compared with ExpressVPN and NordVPN to a certain degree. It probably isn’t the best vpn without logs but what it can do and it’s price. I’ve been with them for the past 3 months or so and I have nothing to complain about. Whenever I have questions, their support helps out quite quickly, their speed is good to very good when I’m torrenting, it’s very easy to setup and use on a daily basis, they have plenty of servers across the globe, etc. What more can I ask from a $2 monthly vpn service? It’s actually a pretty great deal considering all of the good things I mentioned above. I don’t know if there’s any VPN that can match it overall (price per quality offered).

    1. avatar
      Julie Cole

      Hi Deardevil,

Surfshark is definitely one of the best VPNs we’ve reviewed, and it’s still pretty new. In fact, we believe that once it becomes more well-known, it can be a great contender for the top spot as far as VPN speed, security, privacy and price are concerned. We think it’s a pretty good choice and are glad to know you’re enjoying it so far.

      Thanks for reading!

    2. Kramer

I’m also a Surfshark user and yes, they do offer a lot for the chunk of change they charge you with on that 2 year plan. Many people choose NordVPN because it’s a lot more known right now but Surfshark is just as good and cheaper than Nord is and it’s a no log vpn. It just has less servers and maybe doesn’t have the same level of encryption, while still being top-notch. Is it the best zero log vpn out there? No. ExpressVPN probably is the king. But does it do its job and cost a lot less than that? Yes, yes it does do a bang-up job.

By the way, cool username; I saw what you did there 😉 and that’s one of favorite shows.

  5. Black Worm

These are some of the best VPN providers listed here on this page. Express VPN no doubt tops it all. Good to see some new ones on this list too like Air VPN. This seems a good one, but is not as popular as the others listed here.

  6. Freddie miles

The Indy audit has to be done without any prior warning to any co that is willing to be audited and possibly more than once, to ensure that they keep up their policy, otherwise a privacy invading co could just take off the invasive software prior to the audit and return it after the audit.

  7. Kayemba E

I bought a lifetime subscription to WindScribe and run the mobile, desktop, and browser apps. The unlimited data and the faster-than-usual speeds is nothing compared to other VPNs. Glad to know they don’t keep logs also

  8. Bart Neil

I’ve many times seen VPNs which claim a no logs policy only to be disappointed. So I’ve decided to do some research before I choose a new VPN. This list was extremely useful, I found some really good choices. Thank you!

    1. Emma

I think connection logs aren’t that bad, Bart. If you trust your VPN provider, then you don’t have to worry about that. Basically, it’s the only way the provider can help you with connection issues and such.

  9. Raison Brochu

It’s hard to find out if a VPN offers a completely no-log service or if they are just telling you that to get your business. I realize that they may need to keep basic logs to resolve issues with the service, but not to log my activity and keep track of the sites I visit. Thanks for the information in this article, you’ve done a lot of the hard work for me!

    1. avatar
      Julie Cole

Hi Raison, yes, that’s one of the major problems with claims of no-log policies. But there seems to be a growing trend of VPNs doing no-log policy audits, where auditing companies check whether the VPNs truly are no log. VyprVPN and NordVPN have done it recently. We also wrote about the independent audit trend in general (and hope it continues). You can read it here: Papers, please: the rise of the independent VPN audit
