PureVPN vs VyprVPN battle is a close one as both services are among the best available in 2021. In this article, I’ll compare the two and help you make the right choice, which, in the end, will be about your needs and preferences.

To determine which one is better, VyprVPN or PureVPN, I will evaluate them by looking at the key criteria. Those include privacy and security, servers and speed, apps and ease of use, streaming, torrenting, and customer support.

Before starting the comparison, I can say that PureVPN is cheaper. On the other hand, VyprVPN is faster and more secure. And when it comes to unblocking streaming platforms and protecting P2P traffic, both services do the job. This leaves me with no other option but to dig deeper and see which VPN wins in more categories.

Speed and performance

Our in-house speed testing tool shows that PureVPN is about 20% faster than VyprVPN. However, there’s one important detail: these numbers are collected using OpenVPN tunneling protocol. In the meantime, VyprVPN has already implemented the next-gen WireGuard protocol which is multiple times faster than any other.

Until PureVPN offers anything similar, there’s not much else to discuss. I believe they will do so sometime in 2021.

Physical servers
Not allAll
Owns all servers
RAM-only servers
P2P serversNot allAll

At first, the PureVPN server list may seem way better than that of VyprVPN. However, it turns out that half of those countries are linked with virtual servers located elsewhere. What’s more, with PureVPN, you won’t be able to torrent in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, or anywhere else where it’s illegal.

VyprVPN has a much smaller fleet, but all its servers are physical and owned by the provider itself. This usually means better quality and more safety compared to a third-party server provider. Finally, VyprVPN doesn’t discriminate P2P traffic, which means using servers that are closer to you.

Free version

One month
One year$5.75/month$3.75/month
Two years$3.33/monthNA
Three years

As you can see from the table above, PureVPN is cheaper than VyprVPN. While the difference is not that big and the latter actually has a better annual deal, the fact is that you will be saving more with the former. What’s more, PureVPN allows 10 simultaneous connections, which is two times more than VyprVPN does.

Neither of the contestants has a free version or a free trial. There’s a VyprVPN 3-day “free trial” for Apple and Google App Store users, but it’s actually a money-back guarantee. In the meantime, PureVPN offers a 7-day trial for $0.99, but I’d rather exercise its 31-day refund period instead.

Security is a top concern for most VPN users, and our contestants can deliver it. Both come with military-grade encryption, solid tunneling protocols, and a kill switch. They also have no DNS or IP leaks.

However, when you get into details, VyprVPN leaves its opponent behind. For starters, PureVPN doesn’t have a stealth protocol to combat China’s Deep Packet Inspection (DPI). Furthermore, VyprVPN owns all of its servers, which means there’s less chance that third-parties would tamper with them.

To sum up, the sole extra security feature that PureVPN has is split tunneling. Even then, it’s available on Android only if you download their new app. VyprVPN offers split tunneling (and malware blocking) on macOS only, but there’s no way this round goes to PureVPN.

Privacy of VyprVPN and PureVPN

Anonymous payment

Privacy is no less important than security. Like love and marriage, they do tend to go together. But when it comes to evaluating our duelists, the differences start to emerge pretty quickly.

Both Hong Kong and Switzerland are privacy-friendly jurisdictions, but after the 2020 protests, it’s hard to say how much impact China will have on PureVPN. What we know is that in 2017, this provider cooperated with the FBI in catching a cyberstalker.

That’s why I take their independently-audited no-logs policy with a pinch of salt, especially since Gaditek, the owner of PureVPN, is in Pakistan.

The only segment where VyprVPN loses is anonymous payments. It doesn’t allow any, while its opponent gladly accepts various cryptocurrencies.

Our contestants have apps for all popular platforms like macOS, Windows, iOS, Android, Amazon Fire Stick TV, and Android TV. Additionally, PureVPN comes with a Kodi add-on and a DD-WRT router applet. In the meantime, VyprVPN offers an app for routers and some less popular devices.

There are also a bunch of devices that can be manually configured on both services. Those include routers, QNAP, and OpenELEC. Unfortunately, VyprVPN doesn’t have browser extensions, while PureVPN has add-ons for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge (beta).

If you have many devices, choosing PureVPN might be a better idea. On the other hand, if you set up a VPN on your router, everything that’s connected to it doesn’t count against the limit.

Unblocking Netflix and other streaming platforms

Netflix US
Other Netflix libraries
Other platforms

When it comes to streaming online, some content, like TV shows, is geo-blocked. This means that if you’re not in a country where it’s available, your only option is to use a VPN. And even though the table above shows that both providers can do the job, once again, the devil is in the details.

The main reason why only VyprVPN is among the best VPNs for streaming is the speed. Everyone wants to watch their favorite shows at the best possible quality, and the WireGuard protocol is the best option for that. And if you’re using PureVPN for streaming, there’s a higher risk of lower video quality and long loading times.

It’s a pity that both VPNs don’t have Smart DNS, but this doesn’t hurt VyprVPN as much as PureVPN.

Torrenting and P2P: VyprVPN vs PureVPN

Allowed on
Most serversAll servers
Free SOCKS5 proxy
Split tunneling
Android onlymacOS only
Port forwarding

PureVPN allows torrenting and P2P sharing on specific servers only and not from their main locations like Canada, UK, or the US. That’s not a big deal if there’s another country nearby, but if not, the speed will definitely suffer.

In the meantime, VyprVPN allows choosing from the full server list. Plus, your downloads will be much faster with the WireGuard protocol.

Neither of the two opponents fully support split tunneling, which is a pity. But PureVPN stands out with the port forwarding feature that is invaluable if you can’t seed the torrents because of the firewall or router.

Also, with VyprVPN, there’s a slight risk of losing your account if the company receives a copyright infringement note based on your activities. On the other hand, VyprVPN’s no-logging policy should ensure this doesn’t happen, at least on paper.

Customer support of PureVPN and VyprVPN

Live chat
Phone line

PureVPN has a fast response time when it comes to their 24/7 live chat bundled with their well-designed knowledgebase. They have a ticket generating system for any information not accessible on their site. Some of the issues raised by PureVPN customers have been about losing connections to servers and slow response to queries.

VyprVPN’s knowledgebase is easy to navigate. It also has a ticketing system, a 24/7 chat function, an FAQ section, and instructional guides on its website. One downside is that their chat option is not reachable if the user is using another VPN.

Neither of the two has phone support, but it’s not a popular option anyway.

PureVPN vs VyprVPN: which one is better?

As it should be obvious from the category winners table, I declare VyprVPN the winner of this comparison.

For those people who seek absolute privacy and online security, PureVPN might be a far cry from what you need unless you are willing to lower your expectations. In the meantime, VyprVPN is one of the best when it comes to protecting its users.

Nevertheless, the company has done a great job ensuring your IP address will be masked when streaming or torrenting. What’s more important, with PureVPN, you’ll be paying less, even when considering a monthly subscription. Yes, it’s not an ideal package for anonymity, but this service does just about right.

Owing to its Chameleon Protocol and reliability, VyprVPN is a great choice for users who want to conceal their identity and maintain privacy. At the same time, it’s a faster VPN, thanks to the next-gen WireGuard protocol.

I’m a new user of Vypr VPN and have found that it’s usually very fast to connect to and my connection is pretty stable. I’ve had a few times that the connection was dropped and I just had to reconnect, but that has only happened occasionally. Video streaming is also pretty stable and fast. I was glad that it was easy to set up and the interface is clear, making it easy to use. With Vyper VPN I have the peace of mind knowing that I’m safe online while surfing.

  2. Bella

VyprVPN is an old player in the VPN game, and one of its bests. It offers to completely conceal you identity online and it also comes with great customer service.

  3. Gambo108

I had heard of VyprVPN but I didn’t think it was that interesting ! PureVPN has a very attractive annual subscription plan, no doubt, but I’d rather pay a little more to get a real protection.

  4. Goone1990

A torrent download is downloading stuff via a torrent client. 🙂 The basic difference is that, direct downloads will be from a single source while torrents are peer to peer. This allows the client to download from the source as well as other people downloading the same file. 🙂 🙂
