In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, players are matched according to skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) principles. In practice, this system should pair players with similar skill levels, creating competitive and balanced gameplay. However, for most players, this means intense matches that leave no room for practicing or simply playing around.

If you’re tired of SBMM always throwing you in the middle of high-octane gameplay, then a VPN could be extremely helpful. With a VPN, you can mask your real virtual location and place yourself virtually in a region with fewer active players and much higher chances of bot lobbies. With this simple action, you may enjoy a more relaxing gaming experience or finally have a chance to practice.

In this guide, I’ll share my tips on which VPNs are best for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and how to use them to get into bot lobbies.

What are Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 bot lobbies?

In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, “bot lobbies” are multiplayer matches with less skilled opponents and more relaxed gameplay. Although the name suggests these lobbies are filled with bots, they are actually less-skilled human players, referred to as “bots” in gaming slang for their slower reflexes, poor aim, and predictable movements that resemble computer-controlled characters. Overall, these bot lobbies are considered much easier than regular SBMM-based matches and are often used for game exploration, practice, or completing challenges.

To get into bot lobbies in COD: Modern Warfare 4, players can try methods like reverse-boosting, the Two-Boxing technique, or simply launching the game during quieter hours. However, in my experience, the simplest way to get into a COD bot lobby is to use a VPN to change your virtual location to a region with fewer overall skilled COD players, or where the game is simply less popular. And although a gaming VPN won’t always guarantee a 100% SBMM bypass, it does increase the likelihood of ending up in a bot lobby.

Why do you need a VPN for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

Players often use a VPN for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 to bypass SBMM, enhance their privacy, and improve connection stability. For example, with a VPN, you can easily change your virtual location to a region with fewer competitive COD players, increasing your chances of getting into a bot lobby for a more relaxing game.

Additionally, if your internet provider slows down gaming traffic, a VPN may help by masking that activity. In turn, this can reduce lag caused by selective throttling. One thing to remember here is that connecting to distant servers can increase ping, so choosing a balanced location matters.

What’s more, by masking your real IP address and encrypting your traffic, a VPN can help protect against DDoS attacks and add privacy to your online activity.

Best Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 VPNs: detailed list

Not all VPNs are suitable for COD: Modern Warfare 4. Some of them simply don’t offer servers in known bot lobby locations; others have connections that are too slow for gaming, and some may be less private than ideal. To find the best Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 VPNs, I tested over 23 services and found that NordVPN, Surfshark, Proton VPN, TotalVPN, and Norton VPN are the best VPNs in 2026 for COD. All of these services offer plenty of servers in COD bot lobby locations, reliable connection speeds, and strong security features to protect your privacy.

Top 1. NordVPN – the overall best VPN for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

NordVPN is the overall best Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 VPN with the fastest connection speeds, plenty of servers in COD bot lobby locations, and robust security features to prevent DDoS attacks. Using NordVPN connected to Egypt, I was able to enjoy COD games much more easily without any disruptions.

NordVPN has thousands of servers in 224 locations. Most importantly, it covers all the known COD: Modern Warfare 4 bot lobby locations, including Egypt, South Africa, Argentina, Kenya, Ghana, Singapore, and Malaysia. What’s more, I found it maintained a consistently high connection speed, with only about 13% speed loss and sub-100 ms ping. Overall, this means I could enjoy smooth gameplay without lag at crucial moments.

During my NordVPN tests while playing Call of Duty, I found myself relying on several of its features repeatedly. For example, I always used the NordLynx tunneling protocol because it gave me the fastest connection speeds by far. I also relied on NordVPN's DDoS attack protection through leak-free IP masking and, at times, used split tunneling to increase connection speeds indirectly. Lastly, I always made sure the kill switch was on to prevent any unexpected disclosure of my real IP address.

I was also very happy to see that NordVPN is compatible with all of the most popular devices, including routers, which is a huge bonus if you play on a console. Although the service does not offer unlimited device connections, I found the 10 available connections to be more than enough to cover all my devices.

NordVPN is the best Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 VPN, and you can get it for $3.49/month, with a 3-day free trial on Android and a 30-day money-back guarantee. The service helped me get into COD bot lobbies on the first try, and thanks to its fast connection speeds, I played without any interruptions or ping spikes.

Top 2. Surfshark – fast and affordable VPN to get bot lobbies in COD: Modern Warfare 4

Surfshark is an affordable and capable VPN for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 that makes it easier to get into bot lobbies. By using Surfshark’s servers in Argentina, I got into the COD bot lobby and got a chance to explore the games and complete challenges at my own pace.

In total, Surfshark has around 4,500 servers across 100+ countries, including known COD bot lobby locations such as Egypt, South Africa, Argentina, Ghana, Singapore, and Malaysia. During my Surfshark speed tests, the VPN performed similarly to NordVPN, losing only about 19% of my initial connection speed, keeping ping well over 100ms. So, my gaming experience with Surfshark was nearly identical to that of using NordVPN.

As for Surfshark’s features, I thought they were particularly useful for playing COD: Modern Warfare 4, the list included Bypasser (split tunneling), IP leak protection, a kill switch, and, of course, the fast WireGuard protocol. The combination of these features meant I was safe against DDoS attacks, my IP address was well masked, I could use most of my internet connection speed, and the gameplay was as smooth as without a VPN.

Another thing I liked about Surfshark for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 was its compatibility. Besides the most popular devices and platforms, Surfshark is also compatible with most routers, making it easy to set up for a console. Lastly, I thought the unlimited device connections made my subscription even more worthwhile.

Surfshark is a budget-friendly and fast Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 VPN with subscriptions starting at $2.49/month, a 7-day free trial, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. With servers in countries like Argentina and Egypt, it was easy for me to access COD games without sacrificing gameplay quality.

Top 3. Proton VPN – privacy-first VPN to get bot lobbies in COD: Modern Warfare 4

Proton VPN is a Swiss-based service with an emphasis on user privacy, which is perfect if you want to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 without worrying about DDoS attacks. It also offers servers in COD bot lobby locations, including Malaysia and Ghana, which makes it much easier for me to play COD in a relaxed way.

Proton VPN has a massive fleet with around 20,660 servers in 148+ countries. Naturally, the fleet also covers all COD bot lobby locations, such as Egypt, Argentina, Kenya, Ghana, Singapore, and Malaysia, as well as most Eastern European countries, which are also known for easier games. Despite its wide reach, Proton VPN is simply not as fast as NordVPN or Surfshark. During my speed tests, I saw my connection losing up to 22% of its initial capabilities, and the ping remained around 100ms. This is still not a bad result, but if your initial connection speed is already pretty low, you may encounter some minor lag when playing COD.

Proton VPN has plenty of features for gaming, so I was sure it would be a great fit for COD: Modern Warfare 4. For starters, it offers the fast and modern WireGuard tunneling protocol, which kept my connections very stable. I also liked the addition of VPN Accelerator, which boosted my connection speeds with faraway servers, such as in Kenya and Ghana. The VPN is also good at masking IP addresses thanks to special leak protections, while split tunneling allowed me to use the VPN connection only for playing COD.

Another good thing I found about Proton VPN is that it is compatible with most modern routers, which is, once again, a good thing for those who play COD: Modern Warfare 4 on consoles. Once the subscription covers up to 10 devices, you can use the free version to test out if this VPN is the right one for you. Mind you, the free version may not be entirely suitable for playing COD, as it has fewer servers and slower connections.

Proton VPN is a private and secure COD: Modern Warfare VPN, and you can get it for $2.99/month with a 30-day money-back guarantee. I mostly used its servers in Singapore and Ghana to get into COD bot lobbies, but other servers work just as well, so choose the one closest to you for the fastest connection speeds.

Top 4. TotalVPN – cheapest premium VPN to unlock COD bot lobbies

TotalVPN is the cheapest premium VPN for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Although it does not have as many advanced features, I still managed to get into COD bot lobbies using its servers in South Africa and Argentina. I did not experience any disruptions to my gameplay.

TotalVPN does not have as large a fleet as NordVPN or Proton VPN. Still, its 1,800+ servers across 90+ locations cover some of the best regions, including South Africa, Argentina, Malaysia, and Singapore. I was pleasantly surprised with my TotalVPN speed test results, as I only lost about 19% of my initial connection speed, and ping stayed well under the 100ms mark. So, while a smaller fleet can sometimes mean slower connections, that is not the case with TotalVPN.

As for features, TotalVPN cannot boast about an extensive set, instead relying on solid essentials to keep your connections secure. For example, TotalVPN uses the modern WireGuard protocol, though you may find it unavailable for macOS. I also liked that it includes solid IP leak protection measures and a very responsive kill switch. But, besides these essentials, I couldn’t find any other features I could use specifically for playing OCD.

You can use TotalVPN with most popular devices and platforms, though you won’t find an app for Linux, and it does not cover as many router models as some of the other VPNs on my list. That said, you can use one account for around 10 devices, which should give you enough wiggle room to avoid switching devices to keep them all protected.

TotalVPN is a very cheap premium VPN for getting into bot lobbies in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, with subscriptions priced at only$1.59/month and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Using its servers in South Africa and Argentina, I got into easier COD lobbies, while my real IP address stayed hidden to prevent DDoS attacks.

Top 5. Norton VPN – a reliable VPN for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 to increase the chance of bot lobbies

Norton VPN is a robust VPN that protects you against DDoS attacks and helps you access Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 bot lobbies. I mostly used its South Africa servers, which got me into COD bot lobbies, while also keeping my connections safe and secure.

Norton VPN has about 2,000 servers in 65 locations. Although this isn’t a huge number, I was pleasantly surprised to find the service covers all of the best COD bot lobby locations, including Egypt, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Singapore, and Malaysia. That said, Norton VPN speed tests weren’t as encouraging; using it, I lost about 22% of my initial connection speed, with ping staying around the 100ms mark. Overall, this was similar to what I got with Proton VPN, though Norton VPN does not offer a VPN Accelerator feature to boost speeds on faraway servers.

Like TotalVPN, Norton VPN doesn't offer many advanced features for playing COD. That said, all the essentials are there, including modern tunneling protocols, IP leak protection, split tunneling, and even an automatic VPN connection so you don't have to connect every time you launch COD: Modern Warfare 4. All in all, I was happy with Norton VPN’s performance at masking my IP address and delivering consistent connections.

You can use Norton VPN with all of the most popular platforms and devices. However, since Norton VPN does not offer any native router apps, you may need to do a little work to get it to work with gaming consoles.

Norton VPN is a robust Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 VPN with subscriptions starting at $3.33/month, a huge 30-day free trial, and a massive 60-day money-back guarantee. With servers in South Africa and Singapore, Norton VPN helped me get into COD bot lobbies while keeping my IP address masked at all times.

Benefits of using a VPN for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

Using a VPN with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 may help you bypass SBMM, unlock bot lobbies, and add an extra layer of privacy to your gaming. Here are the main benefits:

• Access to bot lobbies. Connecting to VPN servers in different regions can increase your chances of ending up in bot lobbies for a more relaxing game.
• Protection against DDoS attacks. When you are connected to a VPN, your real IP address is masked, which makes it much harder for attackers to target your connection. This is particularly useful when streaming or playing against people you don’t know.
• Bypass ISP throttling. If your internet provider throttles gaming traffic, a VPN may help by hiding your online activity. This can reduce lag, though it won’t overcome your internet plan’s speed limit.
• Potentially lower ping. A VPN can sometimes provide a better route between your device and the game server, reducing delays. However, for this to work, look for a server close to your physical location, as distant ones can actually increase ping.
• Privacy on shared networks. A VPN encrypts your traffic, adding protection when playing on hotel, campus, or other shared Wi-Fi networks. It also masks your home IP address from the services you connect to.

Best location for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

Egypt, South Africa, Argentina, Kenya, Ghana, Singapore, and Malaysia are currently the best locations to try if you want to get a bot lobby in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Although these locations are known for easier COD games, your own experience may still depend on time of day, playlist, and available players.

Below, I’ll share a few tips for choosing a COD bot lobby location:

• Try different countries. Start by connecting to a VPN server in Egypt, South Africa, or Argentina. If you still haven’t gotten a bot lobby, try Kenya, Ghana, Singapore, or Malaysia. Switching regions will change the matchmaking pool, increasing the likelihood of an easier COD: Modern Warfare 4 game.
• Play during quieter local hours. Try connecting to the game early in the morning in your chosen country, for example, between 3 AM and 7 AM local time. It’s very likely that in the less popular hours, there will be fewer players and easier COD games.
• Keep an eye on ping. It’s always a good idea to connect to a VPN for lower latency, but remember to use a server that’s physically close to you for the best results. So start with the closest suggested countries before trying regions farther away. If a location causes noticeable delays or long matchmaking queues, try switching servers.

Other methods to get bot lobbies in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

If you would like alternative methods to get into bot lobbies in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, or simply don’t want to use a VPN, there are a couple of other techniques you can try. These include two-boxing and expanding game mode filters, and I’ll explain how they work in my short guides below.

Two-boxing method for getting bot lobbies in COD: Modern Warfare 4

Two-boxing requires using a second device and a separate account with a lower skill rating to search for matches. The idea is for the main account to attempt to join that session, hoping to enter a lobby selected for the less skilled account.

The two-boxing technique is quite complicated, and you’ll need two devices, two accounts, and access to the game on both. Here’s how you can try two-boxing in COD: Modern Warfare 4:

1. Add both accounts as friends. This makes it easier to find and join the secondary account’s session.
2. Search for a match with the secondary account. Use the less experienced account to begin matchmaking while keeping the main account ready on another device.
3. Attempt to join the main account. Whether this works depends on session availability, available spaces, and the game’s joining restrictions.
4. Disconnect the secondary account. If the main account joins successfully, you can remove the secondary account and continue with the main account.

Two-boxing isn’t a guaranteed way to get into lobbies and mostly depends on how matchmaking handles newly joining players. Even if you find a bot lobby using two-boxing, joining with the main account may affect lobby selection, the attempt could be blocked, and the technique may simply not work for you.

Expand game mode filters in COD: Modern Warfare 4

The more multiplayer modes you switch on, the wider selection of matches the SBMM can pair you with. This simple setting can add variety to your usual COD games, though there’s no reliable basis for assuming that players who leave all filters enabled are less skilled.

If you’d like to try this method, here’s how to go about it:

1. Open the multiplayer playlist options. Find the filters for the playlist you want to play, where available.
2. Switch on several game modes. Include a mix of modes you enjoy, rather than restricting your search to one.
3. Start matchmaking. Play several matches to check whether the wider selection makes COD: Modern Warfare 4 games easier.
4. Adjust your settings. Keep the modes you like and remove those that consistently feel too competitive.

Overall, broader filters aren’t a proven shortcut to bot lobbies, but they can help you explore more matchmaking modes.

Using Modern Warfare 4 bot lobby services

There are paid Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 bot lobby services that you can get into controlled matches for earning kills, completing challenges, or leveling weapons. As there are several providers, their offers vary and may involve inactive or deliberately unresponsive accounts rather than AI-controlled opponents. This means you are basically playing alone.

Before you purchase any COD-Modern Warfare 4 bot lobby services, make sure to check exactly what the package includes and whether progress there counts toward your intended challenges. The last thing to remember is that such services are not official game features, so I’d recommend using a VPN for security anyway.

Summary

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 gameplay is based on skill-based matchmaking. While it sounds good on paper, it often means players are paired with more skilled opponents for an intense game, with no chance to explore or practice simply.

Fortunately, a VPN can help you bypass COD: Modern Warfare 4 SBMM and land you in easier, more relaxed bot lobbies. All you need to do is connect to a VPN server in a country known for COD bot lobbies, such as Egypt or Argentina, and enjoy an easier game. Based on my testing, NordVPN is the overall best VPN for COD: Modern Warfare 4, thanks to its secure servers, fast connection speeds, and robust privacy features.
