Things to consider when looking for the cheapest VPN in 2023

In this digital age, it’s essential to choose only the best and most trustworthy software. Otherwise, you might end up with ransomware on your device and your personal information on sale on the dark web. Thus, when you decide to get the best cheap VPN service, you should keep a few things in mind:

  • How long a VPN company has been running, and where it’s located. Countries that love peace, privacy, and abide by international laws are more likely to be trustworthy places for VPN companies – for example, Panama, the British Virgin Islands, or Switzerland. Meanwhile, volatile, unstable countries or members of the Fourteen Eyes alliance, such as the USA and Denmark, may not be good choices to register a VPN service.
  • Many scams hide beneath cheap VPNs, so it’s wise to read authoritative reviews to protect yourself. Plus, make sure that your chosen service is not plagued by IP address or DNS leaks.
  • Sometimes, scammers offer a “best budget VPN” to access sensitive private information or steal your identity. Other times, they are just mining data and selling it to third parties.

That’s why you should be careful when picking from low-budget VPN services. If you choose one of the best cheap VPN services that we present here, you can be reasonably sure that you’re investing in something trustworthy. These providers are well-known names in the industry and have earned their reputation through years of hard work.

What’s more, Surfshark has over 3200 servers in 100+ countries, guaranteeing excellent connectivity worldwide. Finally, you can use this budget-friendly VPN with an unlimited number of devices.

Fastest affordable VPN

NordVPN is the fastest cheap VPN that’s also #1 on the fastest VPN services list. It has an impressive number of 5400+ servers in 60+ countries that translates into excellent connectivity worldwide. Naturally, this wouldn’t be possible without the proprietary NordLynx tunneling protocol.

If you want to confirm these claims, you can compare the connection speeds of various VPN providers by using our VPN speed test.

What’s even more impressive is that NordVPN manages to provide fast speeds while streaming or torrenting without sacrificing your security and privacy.

Cheapest VPN for Android

Surfshark is the best cheap Android VPN. It’s also on our list of best VPNs for Android. This wallet-friendly service gives you fast speeds, P2P, and unlimited simultaneous connections, which means you’ll make friends with anyone who has a Netflix account but can’t afford a VPN.

Surfshark has great Android-only features like geo-location override that can match your GPS location to your VPN-connected country. It also has no leaks, a strict no-logs policy, and a Camouflage Mode for countries like China. Finally, 24/7 live chat customer support will help you with any type of issue.

Cheapest VPN for Amazon Fire Stick

Surfshark is the most affordable VPN for Amazon Fire Stick. It’s also among the Best VPNs for Amazon Fire Stick. It has native apps for Amazon Fire Stick and Fire TV and a Smart DNS feature that allows you to enjoy the benefits of a VPN on devices that don’t typically support VPN software. Cheapest VPN for Kodi

How to install NordVPN on Kodi

The best VPN for Kodi is NordVPN, as it’s reasonably cheap, easy to use, and has a Kodi add-on. Finding a cheap VPN for Kodi is no easy feat as only a few VPN providers have a dedicated Kodi add-on.

Alternatively, we’d recommend using Surfshark if you’re looking for an even better price. However, since this VPN does not have a Kodi add-on, it will need to be set up manually. The process will vary depending on what device you’re using Kodi on, but it won’t be too complicated.

A third option would be PureVPN. It has a Kodi add-on and is also the cheapest of all three. However, PureVPN still doesn’t offer WireGuard for macOS and iOS, meaning that Apple users might experience slower speeds.

Cheapest VPN for torrenting

Torrenting enthusiasts should look for services with specific features, such as high connection speeds, a P2P-friendly attitude, and a strict no-logs policy. Thankfully, there’s a good overlap between the best VPNs for torrenting and affordability, but we particularly recommend using either Surfshark or PrivateVPN.

Since their prices are comparable, it all boils down to which additional features you prefer from either VPN. For example, Surfshark is a good choice if you’re looking for bonus security features, such as Alert and CleanWeb. Meanwhile, PrivateVPN is better suited for streaming as it has dedicated servers for specific streaming services.

I think you should add Hide.meVPN which has not logs and 10 GB something similar to Windscribe for freemum

    1. avatar
      Mikaela Bray

Hello, Hector. We will definitely consider your suggestion. However, keep in mind that Windscribe has a plan that costs $1/month, one of the cheapest on the market. VPN is a good free VPN, but the premium price tag is well above average.

  2. Denise Mardens

This is a great list of some of the cheapest 1 month vpn and/or vpn with great yearly prices. A few months back I was on the lookout for a cheap, reliable vpn and after a few tests I found a really good VPN: NordVPN. It’s not the cheapest out there but there’s definitely great value offered that gets better when you get a 3-year plan.

  3. Cornelius

So many great options, even if you’re on a budget and are looking for the best and cheapest vpn out there. If I was serious about using a VPN for the long run I would probably go with NordVPN or Surfshark or Windscribe VPN. One of these 3 would be a good choice depending on your personal preferences. Nord is probably a bit better than the others and one of the best cheap vpn for torrenting. Note: been using Nord for the past 4 months and very happy with it.

    1. CrazedTzar

I would recommend Surfshark. It’s definitely one of the cheapest vpn for torrenting and it’s quite good. It works well for anything and offers great download speeds for torrents. You do need to go for a 2-year plan to get the best price but it’s worth it. It would be among the top 3 in any vpn price comparison list. I am certain that in time, Surfshark will become more and more known in the industry because it’s very good.

  4. Cyry

It’s so cool to see such a great VPN like NordVPN when looking for the best inexpensive vpn. And I think Nord is the best cheap vpn for torrenting and although it may not be the cheapest, it is the safest. Also, a surprise and one of the cheapest vpn provider out there is Surfshark. This is surprisingly good from what I saw and it’s just slightly below the quality of NordVPN. You can’t go wrong with either of these two and you’d be paying a reasonable amount considering what you receive.

  5. Lia

Would appreciate a vpn price comparison with just the best 20 VPNs around. I don’t care for anything lower than that and I think that people would like a list of the best and cheapest vpn.

    1. avatar
      Mikaela Bray

      Hi Lia,

It’s not a bad idea, the only problem being the fact that it’s difficult to compare prices for different timeframes – some have only a monthly or annual plan, others have 2 or 3 year plans, etc. But I think we will find some way to come up with a fair list at some point.

  6. Solomon

If I was the owner of LimeVPN, I would either reduce the price of the 2 year plan to maybe $0.80 monthly or create a 3-year plan with a $0.70 monthly price overall. They are very new, have just a few servers and they need people to join. They could easily become the best cheap vpn for torrenting. Right now, I think they are the cheapest month to month vpn around. People that put price above all else will be drawn to this and it seems like it’s a cheap, reliable vpn. Maybe not the best out there but definitely the cheapest vpn provider that is still quite good. The biggest downside I can see right now is the location: Singapore.

    1. Woller

Ivacy’s 5 year plan looks very good to me. Ivacy is far more known that LimeVPN and it’s better so it makes sense to try them first. This is probably the cheapest vpn for Netflix, torrents, browsing. Again, just like Lime, it’s based in Singapore which is not ideal but I wouldn’t eliminate it based on that. The best cheap vpn for torrenting (so you can feel safe online while doing it) is NordVPN. Based in Panama, it offers the highest level of protection and their 3-year plan goes for $2.99 monthly which is a great deal for such a high quality VPN. While Lime might be the cheapest vpn service that is also of good quality, Nord and also Surfshark are on my list of best and cheapest VPN. If you can’t afford Nord just go with Surfshark and if that’s too expensive make an account with Lime or Ivacy.

  7. Ian

Now this is a list I like! I budget carefully, but I don’t want to skimp on protecting myself just to save a few pennies. Thanks for another great resource!

  8. thumper234

Cheap and bandwidth don’t go together. If you want performance pay a premium. If you want spyware, profiling and poor service go with cheap.

VPN networks cost money, if it’s cheap then they are making up for the money they don’t get directly from you by selling your profile and data. Or worse, putting viruses or botnets up that use your computer for their purposes without your knowledge.

  9. Tarub Humayrah

I think that price is not the only factor one should be concerned about. Security, speed, and performance are equally important metrics. I would not recommend simply choosing a cheap VPN as you will be risking your safety and identity.

  10. Cecilia W.

    3 Things I want from a VPN..

1.) No Data Records, Logs, leaks etc..
2.) Fairly decent speeds. 30-60Mbps at least.
3.) THE PRICE: The price should be competitive enough, not too high
Ok number 3 criteria is fulfilled
Can you recommend any of the above VPN that meets 1 and 2 criteria?

  11. Givemesunshine

A free VPN service is vulnerable choice. The old saying goes that if it’s free, you are the product. All your network traffic is going through the VPN and you have no idea what the admin on the other end is doing with it.

VPN must not be chosen for cost But for Speed, Support with highest protocols and no-logs policy. Most PN keep logs even if minimum, They still keep logs.

One should also go through VPNs Location privacy policy before jumping in.

    1. avatar
      Mikaela Bray

Hello, that’s true! You should read all privacy terms really carefully before signing anywhere online nowadays. It is very important to keep your data safe and make sure that your information will always be secure while you will be online and using VPN!
