Brand new to the VPN world, Spyoff VPN offers a more technical approach to online security. Is this the type of VPN for you? Keep reading our Spyoff VPN review and find out.
Spyoff VPN, as the name implies it keeps spies and hackers away. New to the industry, they are based in San Marino and make use of state-of-the-art encryption technology for safe data exchange. In this Spyoff VPN review, we will study in detail what Spyoff VPN has to offer, and if it can be recommended.
Firstly, Spyoff VPN has different security protocols available for use. These protocols are OpenVPN, L2TP/IPsec, PPTP.
Spyoff VPN can be used with different operating systems like Windows and Mac. It also has clients for mobile devices like iOS and Android, and you can manually configure the service on other platforms not having a custom client built for them.
Our research for our Spyoff VPN review shows that they have a kill switch feature, which helps to stop the connection when your VPN services drop. When we tested Spyoff VPN for IP and DNS leaks, Spyoff VPN passed the test. So you do not have to worry about having your DNS leaked.
The process of downloading and installing the client is very easy. If you can follow the instructions laid out in the help section, you will have no issue.
Spyoff VPN can unblock Netflix and BBC iPlayer but in testing for this Spyoff VPN review, it can only achieve that with just one of its servers. This VPN service allows torrenting activities as well.
Their pricing plan is in two categories, free and premium. There are three different plans you can choose from, depending on your budget. They have the monthly, 6-month and yearly plan. All plans give you full access to the Spyoff VPN features.
The good thing about their service is that they allow unlimited connections. Payment is only through credit card, PayPal and Bitpay. You can only get through to the support team using their contact form.
Spyoff VPN is now the safest option out there. For maximum protection and anonymity, we suggest trying the most secure VPN services. Currently, NordVPN offers the best security measures at an affordable price.
Spyoff VPN uses military-grade Advanced Encryption Standard-256 (AES-256) for encrypting data. This encryption is compatible with any device, regardless of the technology it runs on.
Spyoff VPN makes use of OpenVPN, L2TP/IPsec, and PPTP protocols.
They passed the IP and DNS leak when tested, and it has a kill switch feature to help stop connection when VPN drops.
However, the app runs on third-party servers, which is somewhat suspicious, as they do not have complete control over how data is handled.
To download and install Spyoff VPN client, you need to first register on their website.
You will then be given a login detail.
This app does not work automatically in old operating systems (OS) like Windows XP. However, in the FAQ section, there are detailed instructions on how to manually install Spyoff VPN devices on old operating systems.
Spyoff VPN offers its service by routing user’s traffic through over 1000 servers in 40 countries. Barely a few months ago, that number was 395 servers in 21 countries.
Even though SpyOff advertised fast speed, it was not always so, clocking in painfully low numbers. Now, with the addition of hundreds of new servers, this has improved speeds.
To maximise the speed, connect to a server close to you, and one that is less likely to be overloaded.
The Spyoff VPN client is compatible with different platforms such as Windows and Mac operating system (OS), and also mobile devices running on Android and iOS.
The app interface is quite easy to use, and the kill-switch works as easily as “slide on, slide off.”
For other devices like Linux and routers, you need to follow the manual configuration outlined in the details. But it doesn’t support smart TVs or gaming devices.
Some platforms restrict their contents to some locations due to local regulations. Using a VPN service gives you access to these geo-restricted contents.
Netflix, one of the biggest video streaming websites, actively blocks any VPN service bypassing their restrictions. Fortunately, Spyoff VPN can unblock Netflix, but only one of the servers worked. This is an issue, as it can ultimately impact your streaming speeds.
You can also torrent using Spyoff. If you’re looking to transfer large files over the internet without reducing the quality, torrenting is the way to go.
Torrenting is restricted in many countries not because the act itself is illegal but because of copyright. Some users transfer files without the necessary permission.
Be sure to follow the policy stated by Spyoff VPN on torrenting when using their service.
Apart from geo-restricted contents, some countries have completely restricted their internet usage. This is the case in China were internet extremely controlled. Many refer to it as the “Great Firewall of China”.
There has not been any user who claims to use Spyoff VPN in China nor was it mentioned on the website. This makes us hesitant to recommend using this service in the PRC.
You can get a monthly plan for $7.79 after the 14-day free trial.
All plans come with a 30-day money-back guarantee, so in case you do not like their service, you can have your money back.
Any subscription plan gives you access to unlimited bandwidth, multiple logins, and all provided servers.
Spyoff VPN offers some flexibility in the payment methods department. You can pay using a credit card, PayPal and BitPay.
Spyoff VPN customer support is pretty limited, as they do not offer a live chat feature. You can contact them via a form in the support page, which is not always consistent with a quick response. Sometimes, the response is fast, while other times it is slow.
In the help section, they also have an FAQ section which is detailed, but not necessarily easy to follow, particularly for beginners.
Spyoff VPN is still establishing their service and presumably, working out the issues according to priority. The security features are good enough to use, and there is a kill switch.
With the company based in San Marino, you’re free from surveillance, but your info, some of which is logged, may be kept and used for other reasons.
Increased server locations have improved the speed, and torrenting/Netflix is possible. The app is easy to use as well.
However, its compatibility with devices is limited and customer support is slow. For the lack of additional features, we feel that the price is a little on the higher side, even with unlimited bandwidth and all-server access. You can get something better for the same monthly price. Wait for a while, and maybe Spyoff VPN will add more features for your buck.
Good
Bad
For a VPN to be asking for personally identifiable information at the time of sign up is totally unacceptable. No wonder they have such a low rating.
I’m shopping around for a provider with unlimited connections, but I’m not sure the trade-offs here are worth it. Thanks for giving me all the information to sort out.
Well if you have to provide personnale information at sign-up there’s no use in using the VPN. I mean you’re supposed to get privacy but now you can be identified, it’s useless. Thanks for the review though, I know I won’t try this one.
I don’t mind paying a premium for a VPN, but I expect it to be fast, provide excellent tech support, and provide anonymity. Spyoff looks as if it needs to improve in these areas before I would consider it. That it’s not used in the PRC (that we can tell) is another bad sign in my book.
Overall, I think the VPN is decent, but would not purchase again, because it does not meet my needs. First, it is not very fast. It tops out for me at about 5Mbps. Second, the VPN drops mysteriously, when I am ‘downloading files’. Lastly, it does not reliably connect to the servers listed. I need a VPN that connects the 1st time, every time, that has faster speeds and that I can depend on not dropping when I need protection the most.
